So Hubby Doesn't Want to Go?
By Gayle - March 9, 2002
I knew convincing my husband to take a family vacation to WDW for the 100 year celebration was not going to be an easy task. His idea of a vacation is
hiking in no man's land and sleeping in a tent. He hates the heat and crowds. And most of all he can't understand how grown adults can be
fascinated by someone running around in a mouse suit. With this said, I knew I had to come up with a plan to anticiapte all his objectives if I was to
pull off this trip. Since it has been 6 years since my last trip to the World I did extensive research on all aspects of what this trip would entail.
Armed with all my facts, figures, vacation planning video, and the aid of my two older children (ages 20 and 22) it was time to put my plan into action.
I made a nice dinner and my two older children brought up the idea of taking a nice family vacation this year. My husband asked where we should go
and they said they wanted to go back to Disney. As expected, he made a face and said he would stay home and watch the cat (like he did 6 years ago) and
we could all go if we wanted to. I mentioned I had just received their most recent planning video and why don't we watch it to see how things have
changed since our last visit. Despite himself, we caught him smiling a number of times while watching it.
After watching the video I told them about all the things that have been added in the past 6 years, namely the Animal Kingdom, Disney Quest, and the
NFL Experience. Now my husband was starting to ask questions. Then I pointed out and detailed the side trips we could do like Sea World and
Islands of Adventure. With the stage set I launched my secret weapon - our 3 year old daughter Amanda. She tugged on her daddy's sleeve and looked up at
him with her big brown eyes and said, "Daddy, I want to see Mickey Mouse". I looked at him and said, "Do you want to miss the look on her face when she sees Mickey, or Cinderella, or the Castle for the first time?" He sighed, smiled and asked, "Can you get
someone to watch the cat?"
Editor's Note: Other WDW attractions that your husband might find appealing are the ESPN Sports Club at the Boardwalk, Richard Petty's Driving Experience, catch and release fishing available on some of the WDW lakes, and golfing on any of WDW's 5 championship golf courses.
Make sure to check out the lastest WDW sports schedules before you leave home.
