I'm 11 years old.  My mom thinks I should collect the characters autographs.  I think it might be more for smaller kids.  What do you think? - Erika

Answer...
Dear Erica,
I feel the same way, but when I get to Disney I just can't wait to see the characters and get their autographs. I love Minnie , Micky, and all the other characters and I don't care what any of my friends think. I even have a friend who doesn't like when I talk about WDW, but I love the characters. Whatever you want to do will be fine, but I don't think you should miss out on these memories. I hope this will help you decide.

Answer...
When my family goes to WDW we usually take my cousin Shannon who is also my age. My last trip she was unable to come and I felt the same way as your daughter. One thing we did different was some activities at our resort, the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was nice because I got to meet other kids my age and play board games in the lobby. Some of them were from the same state as me. Another suggestion is arcade time in the evenings. I exchanged email addresses with some of the kids that I met. Check with your resort and see if any of these things are available. Another thing you can do is find out through TheMouseForLess list if any other family, in the same situation, will be there the same week. Plan to meet with them during your vacation. After all, Disney is all about Friends and Family.

Please tell your daughter to email me if she has any other questions.

Answer...
I have not been to Disney since June 2003, so I have not seen Philharmagic or Wishes. I am going to Disney this August and plan to review both of these attractions as soon as I return. However, I am able to suggest several rides or attractions that your son will enjoy. There is a show called Fantasmic and it is a really cool show. Mickey has to defend himself from different villains. This show is my Dad and brother's favorite. Even though my brother is only 5, this show changed his opinion of who is the greatest super hero. He now believes that Mickey can defeat the Green Goblin, Spiderman, and Zurg!

P.S. This show also contains fireworks, and if you like to get wet sit close to the front!!!!

Your son would most definitely enjoy Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. It is similar to Philharmagic in that it is also a 3D attraction.  I hope you like small furry creatures :-)

Answer...
Dear 11 year old,

There is a birthday button that you can get at City Hall in the Magic Kingdom that can be used for all of the parks. Wearing the birthday pin will let everyone know that it is your special day. Some of the benefits of the button are:

- sometimes you get asked to come on stage at shows

- if there is a certain food you like you can get a lot of extras ( when I wore the pin I got all the cherries that I could ever want! )

- extra special attention from the characters

Keep in mind that if you're a person that does not like special attention, THE PIN is not for you.

I would pick Chef Mickey's because you eat while you get the characters autographs, and it is a lot of fun.  Not all of the characters are at Chef Mickeys though.  If you want to see the Princesses, you won't see them there.  You will see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale and Donald.

I hope you have a great birthday!

Question...
I have another question for you since your first answers were great! My 11 yr. old son does not like to ride the Haunted Mansion ride because he thinks it is scary.  What could I do that help him think of it as fun instead of scary?  I've tried telling him it isn't real, just machines, but that doesn't work.  Do you have any suggestions? - Sherry

Answer...
I know of  one hidden Mickey head and one hidden Donald head in the Haunted Mansion.  While you are riding through the mansion you could have your son try to find them so that he is focusing on looking for those instead of thinking about the ride. I get really scared when I watch scary movies or movies with ghosts, but I was able to handle this ride.

P.S. you may want to prepare him for the mirrors at the end of the ride. They give the illusion that a ghost is riding in the car with you.

Answer...
I think that unless you and your sister are huge animal lovers you should leave out the Animal Kingdom Park. The other parks offer to many other rides and shows for your family .  I think that  Animal Kingdom is a great park, but a lot of it's attractions are for younger kids.

Question...
When I go to wdw my mom says that I can choose a pillow case or an autograph book?  Which one would you choose? - Caitlin (age 10)

Answer...
I think you should choose the pillowcase because then you could put it back on your pillow and have the autographs to display. Infact, I like that idea so much that when I go to WDW this August I am going to take a pillowcase. I really enjoy getting the characters autographs but, my autograph books always end up buried in a closet.

Question...
You said that you stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We are staying there to. What did you like about staying there? - Mia

Answer...
Yes! We did stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge last June. We went with my nana and stayed concierge. I really enjoyed the free food. I loved watching the animals through the night vision goggles. I also loved the swimming pool and the hotel activities on the days that it rained. My brother (5) really enjoyed watching the giraffes from our balcony every morning. Each morning we would find him on the balcony. When we would ask him " What are you doing?" he would say " I'm watching my animals!" There is also an arcade that we went to in the evenings. If I had to choose where we would be staying this August, it would be at The Animal Kingdom Lodge!

P.S. we will be staying at the Beach Club in August and I am looking forward to reviewing the resort and the great swimming pool!

Question...
I have a question my mom said in the future we can go to Disney World or Ride a Disney cruise. Which one would you choose???? - Caitlin (age 11)

Answer...
I'm so excited! I am going on the Disney Cruise in 2005 and plan to review it as soon as I return.  If you have already been to Disney World, why not choose the cruise?  I have several friends that have already been on the Disney cruise and they really liked Castaway Cay and the Oceaneer Lab.

Question...
I have two daughters that will be age 8 and 10 when we go to WDW. They both want to do one of the children's activities at the Grand Floridian. Which do you think they would enjoy more, the Wonderland tea or the Pirate Cruise? - Debbie

Answer...
Well, the Pirate Cruise was really fun. You go on a boat and the adults that are in charge take you to an island. You have to find pieces of a map which will lead you to the treasure. It is kind of like the show " Survivor " because you and your group members are going against other groups to find the treasure first. In the end every group finds it, and everyone takes home some "loot."

I also liked the Wonderland Tea Party a lot. You get to have tea (apple juice) and sandwiches with Alice and her friends, like the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, and other characters from the story "Alice and Wonderland."  When the Tea party is over you get to take some flowers from the middle of the table and tie them together for one of your family members.

If I had to choose, my choice would be the Wonderland Tea.  I loved the Pirate Cruise, but the treasure is mostly candy and fake jewelry for littler kids.  I hope this helps!!!

My question is not about Disney.  We are going to fly to Disney in June.  I've never been on a plane and don't think I want to.  Have you?  I  hope I won't be too scared. - Amanda (age 10)

Answer...
I have been on an airplane many times. The first few times I was nervous, but once we were in the air it wasn't so bad. I still get a little scared during the take offs and landings. When I fly on an airplane I take things to keep me busy. It takes only 2 hours for me to get to Disney on an airplane from my house. I always take bubble gum so that my ears don't pop. There is a fold down table that you can use as a desk to play games, color, or keep a journal of your flight. You can also bring your laptop, if you have one, to watch DVD's. During the flight you will get a drink and a snack. This helps make the time go by a little faster. I hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!

Answer...
Most rooms in the Port Orleans Resort include two double beds. You can get a room with a king bed or a trundle bed too. Each room has two pedestal sinks and a bathtub/shower. There is a T.V, a dresser and a table in the room.  So the rooms are pretty nice.

There is a big pool, a kiddy pool and a hot tub. There is a short slide, but it is still fun to ride anyway. The pool is open all day and it closes at about 10 p.m.

There are also hotel activities for you to do there. You can go fishing on Ol' Man Island at the fishing hole. You can go to the butterfly garden or get your face painted by a professional painter. There is also an arcade. There are alot of other things to do at the hotel too, so don't miss out on them.
