Jen G.'s Disney Obsession Room

Note From Editor: Jen's Disney Obession Room is currently under construction, but she promises to send us regular photo updates

I fell in love with all things Disney when my husband took me to WDW for my very 1st time in 1996. We bought our house in 1999. It's a 4 bedroom home & there are just 2 of us, our dog & our cat. I thought hmmm...nothing would be better than to have a room dedicated to my obsession!

Thankfully, David is very very tolerant of me! Besides, this is technically his fault. We've owned the house for 3 years now & it's taken me this long to decide just what I want to do in my room. I change my mind so very often that if it's going to be a permanent thing, I need to know I'm going to like it for a long time.

The ceiling fan was easy, I made a stencil of the Mickey head & painted them on in different colors. The walls weren't so easy to decide on because our house is made out of cement block & all of the walls have some sort of stucco like suface on them. Can't wallpaper at all & David is not a big fan of painting the walls any other color than white. Once in awhile he gets crazy & lets me buy off white.

Since it's my room I make the final decision...different colored Mickey heads! Painted the walls very white, made my stencils out of cardboard & penciled them on the walls. Painted each color very carefully on the wall. I'm not done painting yet. I have M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E penciled on the walls between the Mickey heads & will paint that all in black.

I wanted something very different for the carpet in there. One day I decided it had to be a red carpet with a black Mickey head. Luckily, my best friends own a rug shop. Searched for the red & black carpet...they had to be by the same maker so they would look right. I bought a helium balloon in the shape of a Mickey head & traced that out on a piece of cardboard. Cut the giant head out & sent it down to my friends. I've been planning the carpet for over a year now. Finally...yesterday came! I was so excited when I got home to see the final product! It's better than I imagined! The red piece of carpet that came out to make room for the black will now be bound & made into a Mickey throw rug for the room too. I also have excess red & black carpet that I'm thinking of making into smaller Mickey heads & tossing them in the room too. Would that be overkill? Who cares!!!! :)

My room's not done yet...I'll be painting orange around the trim of the windows & the doors, have to put a Mickey head on the headboard & footboard of the bed...thinking about purple...it'll be a very colorful room.
