MFL Mouseketeer Roll Call

Meet Carol Vandiver
February 06, 2004

This week brings us our substitute list Mom, Carol Vandiver. She is one of the multi-purpose ImaginEARS we have on the list and is a great source of info for both websites, TheMouseForLess and TheMouseForLess Yahoo Group.

What is your name? Carol Vandiver

Who does your family consist of? Here at home, family consists of myself and my DH, Darren. We have a 95 pound dog and 2 cats that share our space, too. They are treated like children, so I guess really there are 5 of us. :O) I also have a grown son, John, a DIL and a BEAUTIFUL granddaughter, Haley, who is 6.5 years old (and yes, we MUST put the .5 in there!). They live about a mile away.

What is your occupation? I work for a rather large company, in the Material Proposal Pricing area. I've worked for the company for 25+ years, but in this area only 4.

How did you find TheMouseForLess? I was surfing around on Disney sites and found a link. At this point, I'm not sure which site it was! LOL! But I'm so glad I clicked!

How long have you been a member of MFL? Since June 5th 2002.

If you have a MFL title, how did you get it? Oh my! Well I was first given the title of "Official MFL Photographer". That happened not long after I joined the DDL group. I'm one of two people with that title, Maggie was an Official MFL Photographer before me! LOL! I'm not sure in what order the rest came, but I also have the titles of "MFL ImaginEAR", "MFL Graphics Guru" and from time to time, I'm "Substitute List Mom". I may be called other names, but they are not official. (grin)

How many times have you vacationed to a Disney destination? I cannot even count. Living so close (an hour east), we go quite often and I've lived here my entire life. WDW is the only Disney destination that I've ever visited though. I hope to at least make it to DL someday!

Who is your favorite Disney Character and why? Ok, I really dislike these "favorite" questions. I'm fickle and rarely have a favorite ANYTHING! I'd say it is a tie between Tinkerbell and Minnie. Tinkerbell because she's so feisty and adorable and Minnie? Well I guess just because she's MINNIE!

What is your most embarrassing Disney Moment? Ugh. Well "someone" (who knows who they are!!) said that if I was ever chosen for the Roll Call, I had to share this. So here goes. I went to WDW on my honeymoon back in the 70's. I don't know if it was excitement at being there or wedding jitters or what, but as we stood in wedded bliss, waiting for the ferry to arrive to take us to the MK, I got incredibly SICK! I managed to make it to the side of the area, but I did some major damage to the lovely bushes that surround the place. I was SOOOO embarrassed. So if any of you were there in the early 70's and saw an embarrassed 17 year old tossing breakfast... we'll I guess we've met!

Do you consider yourself to be a Disney expert or novice? Well I'm by no means a novice, but I wouldn't say I'm an expert either. I learn new things every time I go! Maybe I'm an "Expert In Training".

What is your best tip for saving money on a Disney Vacation? Research. There are so many ways that you can cut costs, without giving things up. There are A LOT of things to do that are free, so ask questions and research that, too. Lastly, enjoy yourself. You don't have to do everything and if you try, you won't enjoy anything!

What is your favorite attraction at a Disney park? My favorite was Rock'n Roller Coaster for years. But the last 5 or 6 times I've ridden, something was WRONG! The lights are off inside, the music doesn't work in my car and on top of that, the ride itself is getting rougher and rougher. It needs REHAB! So I traded. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Tower Of Terror (can you tell MGM is my favorite park?)! It's not unusual for me to ride 4 or 5 times in a row. I love the new random drops and the seat belts instead of a bar are MUCH better! Wooo!

Besides Disney, what is your favorite pastime? I spend half of my free time sitting in this chair in front of this computer. The other half is divided, not so evenly between reading, card making and hanging out with my granddaughter, Haley (which is my FAVORITE pastime!).

If you were stranded on a desert island, what would be the one thing would want with you and why? This is not a good question. LOL! Is there already water and shelter here? What about food? I don't want to waste my ONE THING on something that's already there! My first thought is Haley because trust me, a desert island with her would be LOADS of fun! But I'd hate for her to be stranded. :O( So I guess I'd bring a BIG BIG BIG BIG book! (This was by FAR the hardest question! LOL!)

What is your favorite movie (Doesn't have to be Disney)? My favorite movie of all time, and I have NO CLUE why, is Flashdance. I think I'm a Flashdance Wannabe!

What is your favorite food? ONE? You're kidding, right? I can't do it. I'll leave it at that.

If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would do? Find someone to teach me how to INVEST the money. I want that money to last me a LONG LONG time! Then of course, I'd have great fun with a nice allowance!

What is your favorite Holiday or time of year? My favorite holiday is Halloween. My favorite time of the year would be "Christmas-time". I love that whole time between Thanksgiving and the New Year.

What would people be surprised to know about you? That I've had breakfast with Susan Lucci. :O) Ok, there were 100 other people there, too, but I DID have breakfast with her. I attend SSW every year with 2 of my closest friends and one year we did the Susan Lucci chat club breakfast. We raised money for Susan's favorite charity, Little Flowers Children’s Services of New York.

What is your favorite aspect of MFL? The friends that I've made here would be first on the list. Second would be the things that I've learned.
