Annettes dear son gets the "red mohawk with pixie dust" treatment at the Mainstreet Barbershop in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

We took an impromptu visit to WDW at the end of October 2002. We had previously met the Dapper Dans during our April 2002 trip. On this particular day, we were chatting with the Dapper Dans after one of their late morning sets. We were all standing around by the Fire Hall when a cast member came up to us and started chatting with us. We always take the time to talk to cast members who are willing to pass the time with us. This cast member, somewhat under his breath, said that he would like to ask us something. He said that it was hot so he directed us around the corner and "into the shade", which also happened to be somewhat out of sight.

He said that we seemed to be a really nice family and asked if we could help him out. He asked if we were doing anything between 2:30 and 3:30; we had no plans that we could not reschedule. He then asked if we would help him out by being the Grand Marshalls for the parade and ride in the stagecoach. Being the considerate type folks that we are, we decided that we would put ourselves out and lend him a hand. He then took our names, where we were from and asked us to meet him sharply at 2:35 where the parade starts in Frontierland.--Brian MacGowan

One of our WDW traditions and one of the first things we do when we arrive at the Magic Kingdom is to get a haircut. During our April 2002 visit we decided that everyone in our family would get a haircut. Sandy, who had not had her hair cut in over ten years, decided to have her hair cut short-short. Our daughters (four and six at the time) would get their first real haircuts. Prior to that they had just had their bangs trimmed at home. The girls really like their long hair, so Billie the barber just took off about six inches from the bottom to even things up a bit.

While we were getting our haircuts, Joe, a recently retired Dapper Dan, strolled into the barbershop. A short time later, while Joe was still in the barbershop, Bruce, another retired Dapper Dan, came in. While Joe and Bruce were swapping stories, Steve of the Dapper Dans wandered in, shortly followed by Chad and then Keith and Rich. In the Harmony Barbershop were six Dapper Dans; Billie said that this was indeed a very rare occasion!

With so many Dapper Dans in one place they could not resist singing. First Bruce swapped bass positions with Keith and sang "Back in 1910". Next Joe swapped baritone with Chad and sang "Lida Rose". Finally, the current Dapper Dans reformed and sang "Somebody Stole my Gal".

We really enjoy meeting cast members; for us this is a big part of the Disney Magic. Our girls really enjoyed the slap-stick of the Dapper Dans, and they in turn enjoyed the girls enjoying them. After the Dapper Dans finished singing and while our eldest daughter was getting her hair cut, we chatted with the Dapper Dans. Before the Dapper Dans left they, along with Billie, were kind enough to pose for a photo with the girls.-- Brian MacGowan

We were having breakfast Donald's Prehistoric Breakfastosaurus in AK for my son's birthday. While we were eating Mickey, Donald and Pluto came to say hello and take pictures. Pluto knew it was Kyle's birthday, so he took a napkin and drew Kyle a birthday card with a crayon! A few minutes later our server came by with a few other CM's who sang Happy Birthday and presented Kyle with a card signed by the characters and a cupcake. Then.....another CM came to our table and said, "The characters would like me to ask you a question....how would you like to help out by being Grand Marshall's in Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade today?" WOW.....would we ever....a chance of a lifetime!!! CM - Laura told us to meet her at 3:30 by the entrance to the Safari. She also told us there would be other families in the parade too.

At 3:30PM we went to the place where Laura had told us to meet her. The other Grand Marshall's were a family of four, a newlywed couple and another couple. We were then given our instructions and then taken backstage one group at a time. Once backstage we were all given vests, hats and earplugs to wear. Why earplugs? Because the music from the floats are really, really loud! We then boarded our float and off we went down the parade route. CM - Laura was standing at the gate when we came out, she took our picture with a disposable camera, handed it to us and we were free to do whatever we wanted with it. The parade itself was awesome to say the least. At first the three of us were at bit "shy" because you come out of the gate and *everybody* is staring at you! Once we got going, we were waving and *everybody* was waving back at us..... I must say the best part was waving to the small/young children along the route. The look on their faces was priceless when we would make eye contact and wave to them. Their faces just lit up with excitement because somebody in the parade was waving at just *them*....those memories will stay with us for a lifetime.....just pure Disney magic -- Annette
