This was my first WDW trip since I was 9 years old. And it was the first REAL
vacation John and I had taken together. We arrived at the Caribbean Beach
Resort on November 6, 1997, and immediately ran off to the Magic Kingdom
to take in the sights. Ah, what a wonderful day! We topped off the day
by having a very nice romantic dinner in Cinderella's Castle, followed
by the MK Fireworks. As we left the castle and came to the Mickey &
Me statue, we stopped to take in the site of the castle all lit up. There
was another couple there, and John asked them to take our picture. He handed
the wife of the couple my camera, and I looked at him and said, "How do
you want to take this picture?" He asked me to stand up by the statue,
which I did. As I turned around to look at him, ready for the picture to
be taken, he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring as he took my hand
in his. I wish I could say I remember what he said, but I was so blown
away by this that all I can remember is the intense surprise and joy I
felt. I know it was the sweetest thing he had ever said, and I cried "Yes!"
over and over as we hugged in front of the castle. The funniest part of
the story is that the poor wife couldn't get my camera to work. In the
dark, you have to hold down the button to let the flash charge. She just
quickly pressed it, not realizing, and thus didn't take the picture. After
a few moments of hugging, John looked over my shoulder at the woman and
said "Please tell me you got that picture!" She nearly burst into tears.
We felt so bad for her. We should her how to work the camera, and then
"reenacted" the moment. But I had this big dopey grin on my face throughout
the entire thing. :-) We tried to calm her as she seemed so upset, and
told her that this would make a funny, memorable part to our engagement
story, and not to worry about it. :-) That is by far my favorite WDW moment!!

During our Engagement Vacation to Disney World in 1997, we resort-hopped around
Disney. We wanted to experience different resorts (we couldn't make up
our minds!!), and we also didn't have the budget to stay at the more expensive
resorts for 11 nights. This way, we were able to try different resorts!
While we were staying at the Boardwalk Villas, our room service maid went
above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay special. We never met
her, and yet felt like we had become good friends...when John & I returned
from a long day at the parks, we found a delightful surprise for us...we
love to collect stuffed animals, and had bought several of them...We walked
into the Villa to find the little money we had bought hanging from the
kitchen lamp, a little note in his paw that said "Wheee! Look at me!" In
our room, a curled up tiger we had bought was snuggled in the bed, with
a little note that said "Ahhh! A perfect nap!" All the other animals were
similarly arranged about the room with little notes. When we left the next
morning, we arranged the stuffed animals ourselves, and left little notes
with them. We came back to find all of them in new positions, with new
notes...This continued the entire time we stayed there. It was as much
fun returning to our rooms to see what we would find, as it was going to
the parks. We left her a huge thank you note when we left, but we never
did get her name and never did run into her. I wish we had, so we could
have told someone how enjoyable she made our stay. :-) -- Michelle
In 93 My sister and I took my Mom to Disney World (it was her last request,
she had lung cancer)...she was in a wheel chair it was April, very busy
time but Mom was in a wheel chair so we didn't pay attention to lines for
anytime we went near an attraction we were sent right on....anyway Mom
wanted a coffee cup to drink out of. She would not drink out of paper cups,
so we were on main street and she picked out an $8.00 dollar cup....10
minutes later Mom had to use the rest room...the cup broke....sliped right
out of the chair, so we went and got another on...lunch came and went and
we were getting settled and well the bag slipped or something and the cup
went again!! My sister and I just looked at each other. Next we went over
to Epcot for the rest of the day, got another coffee cup...had lunch at
"Living Seas'" waiter comes over with this tray of Desserts and ask "Which
one would you like"? I try to grab the chocolate cake I say "I want that
one" and I reach for the plate....he pulls away and says " No" I say "Yes,
I want that one"! He says "No you can't have that one" my sister is laughing
at me!! I say "I really want that cake"! He says" but I can't give you
that one!" I say "really I do want that one "and he pulls it away again!!
he says "I can't give you that because it's PLASTIC !! (the whole tray
was plastic items just to show you what kinds of deserts they were serving!!)
my sister still kids me about it!! So, then we leave that and spend a few
more hours at Epcot and we go to get on the monarail to go back to our
rooms and we are tried from a long day and pushing mom around and helping
her in and out of the chair, and we are ready to get on the monarail and
I drop the bag with her coffee cup!! We all just look at each other and
laugh!! we bought a cup the next day on clearence and thank God we still
have that to remember our trip with mom!! -- Dislov2000
One of my favorite funny memories (and embarrassing for my cousin!) was on
the bus. She was coming from the hotel after an afternoon swim and was
meeting my and my kids on the way Downtown Disney. The bus was fairly crowded
and we were sitting at least half way back. This was our first full day
there, so Lisa was filling me in on how she had gone to the pool. Since
the hotel never has enough towels, she said that she took a bunch from
the pool and hid them on the balcony. (we were staying at the Wilderness
Lodge) I was about to ask her why, when the bus driver began speaking on
his microphone. "For those of you staying in the hotels here at Walt Disney
World, please don't steal the towels from the pool and hide them on your
balconies. Just call housekeeping. They will be more than happy to bring
you some more." He said it in that "Disney" way, so we knew that he was
being funny. The look on my cousin's face was priceless. We couldn't stop
laughing at her. -- Moomduck1
