Deciphering TheMouseForLess
Calendar
By Michael Boyer - 8/10/2001
Here is a re-post of MFL Calendar instructions from several
months ago. You can also find these in our files section under
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/themouseforless/files/Documentation.
I've made a few minor updates, corrections, and additions.
ENJOY!
-----------------------------------------------------------
The MFL Calendar link is

Do you enjoy the online fellowship with other The Mouse For less list
members?! Would you like to know when other list members will be at
WDW or DL so that you could possibly arrange a "meet'?! Are you just
interested (nosey:-) in the trip arrangements and cost cuts/savings of
fellow list members, like what they paid for their hotel and where
they are staying or how they financed their trip?! Well then the
Yahoo CALENDAR feature of The Mouse For less group is for you.
Instead of aimlessly searching through the groups archives to find
that posting you remember of someone who was going in November, now
everyone can share/post their next trip(or multiple next trips for
the lucky ones) on the Calendar and make it easy to locate other list
member trips which overlap yours or just browse all the interesting
trip related information.
BUT TO MAKE THIS WORK YOU CAN'T LURK, YOU MUST CREATE A CALENDAR
ENTRY!
If everyone sits back and waits for the other guy to create their
calendar entry for their trip then nothing will happen and no
communication will occur. Communication is what this group is all
about!
Here are a few tips for what to put in your Calendar entry:
-Once you are logged into the TheMouseForLess page look on the left
side of the page for the Calendar link. It doesn't matter what day
you start at, just click the Add Event link above the calendar date.
YOU ARE THERE, STARTING ENTERING!
- Give the Calendar event a brief but meaningful name. Include your
name/handle and resort you are visiting, WDW or DL
- Enter the date as the first day of your trip
- Enter Duration as "All day"
- Under Description, be as verbose as you want (within reason) and
tell the other list members about any special items of interest about
your trip. Minimally include where you are staying and for how
much. You can also include any cost cutting tips applied to help
finance your trip.
- Under the Repeat section, select "Repeat Every Day", IMPORTANT -
check the "until" box and enter the date which is the last day of
your trip. This will automatically repeat the data on the calendar
for every day of your trip so that you only have to type the data
once.
- Under Reminders, leave these at their default values of NONE. We do
NOT want list members deluged with calendar reminders in addition to
the ever expanding list postings.
- YOU ARE DONE, just click Save changes to commit your new entry
- If you want to look at an example, go to 3/11/2001 on the Calendar
and check out my Boyer entry for reference.
---------------------------------------------------------------
A relatively new use for the MFL Calendar is to record members
Birthdays. To receive a birthday greeting from the TheMouseForLess
list, please be sure to place your birthday in the member calendar on
the Yahoo site. Please include your email address in
the "description" section of your record. Make sure that you check
the "DO NOT REPEAT" box for this occasion. Please do NOT repeat your
birthday entry every year so that moderator maintenance of the
calendar will be easier as membership changes. Birthdays will have to
be re-entered each year. Also, DO NOT set a reminder to be posted to
the TheMouseForLess list.
