It is not difficult to get into the spirit of the season at Walt Disney World Resorts. All properties are spruced up with elaborate holiday decorations, and it is absolutely worth your time to go resort hopping.  Liliane Opsomer, coauthor of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids, takes us on a tour of some of her favorite resorts.

Wilderness Lodge has a four-story-high Christmas tree decorated with Native American-inspired ornaments.

Over at Fort Wilderness Campground, you will be in awe when you see how guests have decorated their RVs. It is a bit like taking a Christmas lights tour in your hometown.

If you are a gingerbread fan, don’t miss the gingerbread carousel at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and the amazing life-size gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian.

A five-story tree dominates the lobby, an orchestra plays Yuletide music, and choirs regularly perform, bringing Christmas cheer.

At Disney’s Yacht Club, the Christmas tree is adorned with nautical-inspired ornaments, and the whimsical Christmas village display comes with a running train.

As you enter the huge lobby of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, feast your eyes on a giant Christmas tree. Soaring best describes this tree decorated with African-inspired ornaments. The entire resort is decked with lit garlands, spectacular holiday wreaths, and uniquely decorated smaller trees found throughout the public rooms, shops, and restaurants.

At Port Orleans French Quarter, Mardi Gras colors are elegantly incorporated into all the holiday finery.

No matter what resort you visit, the magic and the spirit of Christmas fills the air. If you are staying at a resort during the holidays, make sure to check with the concierge about special events, such as concerts, Christmas cookie decorating, visits with Santa, and more.

Stay tuned for more installment of Yuletide happenings as we discover the most wonderful time of the year at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, the new International Festival of the Holidays at Epcot, Christmas at Disney Springs, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and more.
