Do you remember the “party line”? I don’t like to admit it, but I do remember them. It’s not that I’m too terribly old… No, I grew up in a very rural part of the country. I remember listening to the distinct ring. Was it my ring or my neighbor’s ring? That’s not the only thing… If someone else on my line was talking, I could hear everything that was being said if I picked up the phone and listened. I didn’t do that, but I know some people did.
At Disneyland, you can relive those “party line” times at the Market House on Main Street. Look for a couple of the above phones in the back of the Market House. When you pick up the receiver, you can hear the conversation from the 1890s. What a neat way to show kids how phones used to be!
