I was thrilled to hear several months ago that the Muppets would be returning to the big screen. I grew up with the Muppets and remembering looking forward every time for the Muppet show. I loved the fun and craziness that show brought to TV and even my parents enjoyed it as many of the top stars appeared on the show regularly. As the Muppets moved to the silver screen I continued to enjoy the movies through my childhood. Some of mine and my sisters favorite movies were the Muppets movies. My personal favorite character was Animal and even though he only brought yelling and craziness to the screen I still laughed every time I saw him. As I got older though the Muppets seemingly disappeared from TV and movies and a fun part of my childhood disappeared as well. Every once in a while you would see them appear here and there but for the most part they were hidden from view, but that is changing.
When the partnership with Disney became official you slowly began to see the Muppets emerging from their hibernation. I introduced my two sons a couple of years ago to the old Muppet movies and they quickly became a repeat showing on our DVD player. They offer fun, creativity, music and laughter every time we watch them. They think it is cool that they can watch movies that there dad when he was a kid and they still can make us laugh. On our trips to Walt Disney World my sons have made sure we see Muppet Vision 3D multiple times and we even made sure we left with some Muppet themed merchandise. I have collected several of the Muppet Vinylmation’s and have continued to be on the lookout for those that I still need. I am very happy to see the Muppets in Hollywood Studios and would love to see them appear in other parks as well in the future. I believe that they offer wide appeal to many audiences, and I know that somehow Disney will incorporate them more in the years to come.
My family has made sure to set aside November 23rd as that is the opening day showing of the new Muppet movie. It will be a great way to kick off our Thanksgiving week and some wonderful family time. It looks as though many of our favorite characters will be in the movie along with a few new Muppets as well. Jim Henson was such a wonderful story teller and they way he did things was unique to say the least. He in many ways was a visionary much like Walt Disney and that is why I think it makes an excellent partnership. It should be interesting to see how this movie tells the new Muppets story, and how that will carry forward in the years to come. I know that Disney will be careful to honor Henson’s legacy in this movie and in hopefully many more shows and movies to come. I wonder if the movie is a success if we will see more appearances of the Muppets in the parks and shows? I can only hope that this Muppet movie brings the fun and laughter that all the others have for me and my family. I know that I can’t wait and I am sure there are numerous other fans that feel the same way.
