Trip started as a disaster with my experience at Gaylord Palms. Heard from someone else that the Gaylord hotel in Dallas is about as large as the Orlando one, and today I got re-routed through Nashville, TN, and drove past Gaylord Opryland Resort–which looks even LARGER than the one in Orlando! I have decided that I am not an off-property resort person, and my Disney trips will involve staying in a Disney hotel. Although the room in All Star Movies is smaller than my kitchen (I live in an old house so the rooms are pretty big) I was pretty happy in there, and everything is so very convenient when you stay on Disney property. The beds were comfortable and the linens were of a good thread count even in the Value resort. My car was less than 5 minutes away using the stairs. Plenty of “reasonably priced” food from which to choose too. And Disney does a really great job with transportation. I only drove to theme parks because I wanted to, not because I needed to.
The drive down to FL and back was not too bad, and very little traffic. Breezed through Atlanta both ways with no problems at all. Never ate any fast food for the entire trip either–but next time I will do a better job of planning where Panera Bread is located. We really love Panera and there is something for everyone there, but they don’t have road signs on the highway except in Jacksonville, FL. Next time I’m in there I’m going to see if they have a restaurant directory.
We are re-thinking our summer plans after this trip. Right now I have air on SWA to Los Angeles and we have plans to visit Disneyland. But I haven’t made any hotel reservations or purchased any park tickets. Suzanne wants to go back to FL, and I might change what we’re going to do. Going to work on this later in the month, but don’t be surprised if I go to Coronado Springs (which is where I was supposed to be on this trip) in June/July. But if it’s a long trip, then might be French Quarter or Caribbean Beach… no bad choices at Disney.
It was really fun for Suzanne to have a friend (referred to as ‘H’ in the previous post) in the parks. The girls both knew Disney really well and had a lot in common. I hope we can travel at the same time again so the girls can run around and have fun. We met Deb and her daughter in July and spent a little bit of time together, and Suzanne enjoyed that too. Its got to be more fun running around the parks with someone your own age than your mom, unless your mom is a Disney Dork like some of us.
Next adventure is the four night Disney Cruise for Spring Break. We’re flying to Tampa and renting a car, and then getting on the ship the next day. Should be an uneventful trip but all of us are going, including the DH. He has not had a vacation in two years, and I know he will worry about his business the entire time. But he needs the trip and its paid for, so he’s going. 😉
