Great restaurant. Character interaction is fun and the food is great. Nice balance of interesting and plain vanilla for the less adventurous eaters. One of the best restaurants on property for allergies. Chef has made my son a special meal everytime we’ve gone (dairy allergy) and speaks directly with him (at age 2 and 4) about what he’d like to eat. So personal. He asks to go back with every trip and we’ll be back again in March.

We have done our only character meals at Tusker House, this past November and the year before (we’ve visited WDW more than two dozen times). We liked Boma and so my husband agreed to try TH. The menu is like “Boma light,” but with enough for both selective eaters and those seeking more interesting flavors. As a primarily vegetarian eater, I found plenty to fill my plate. Service on both occasions has been efficient; character interactions were wonderful. My adult son has autism and the characters were great with him. Do bring your own camera as they no longer take pictures.

The only negatives were that one CM at check-in last trip was quite unpleasant, directing me to go stand in the line when I approached the desk. There was no line, just a mob of people standing around, and of course, once I obeyed, she called me back over. Just a power play. The guy who checked me in was very pleasant (same guy both years). And they declined to allow my husband to take his scooter into the restaurant so he parked it and struggled up the steps and to the table. After we sat down, two other people on scooters rolled into the restaurant and were accommodated. But otherwise, this is a great place to see Mickey, Donald, Daisy and our favorite guy, Goofy, with good food at a reasonable price (for Disney).

We enjoyed our dinner at Tusker House. The buffet style was nice, as I have a picky eater, and the Characters were great. My daughter was having a “moment” in which she wanted no part of the characters (she’s funny about characters when she can’t see their face). They were polite and didn’t bother her at all. They stood far enough behind her that we could still get a picture of them with her, but she didn’t even really know it. LOL The foot was okay. Not my favorite, but that’s just because we didn’t care for a lot of the food (just our preference, nothing bad on their part). All in all, it was a great dinner.

  1. Visited Tusker House for breakfast today. We arrived 15 mins before our reservation and after a photo op were seated immediately. The characters all visited our table twice throughout our hour long meal. The food was plentiful, but was salty for our tastes. We have been to all of the Disney parks, several restaurants and on all 4 cruise ships and this was our least favorite Disney experience. We felt rushed, the service was mediocre at best, and there were very few cast members with smiles on their faces. For $30.00 a person, we were expecting more from this experience. We ate at Chef Mickey’s in January and we were much more satisfied with that experience than we were today. Hard to believe that 90% of the staff was having an off day, but unfortunately they were today. :(

I don’t think i have been very disappointed with character dining at WDW until i visited Tusker House for their character lunch.

As soon as i got checked in, i was sent to the upper check-in area where a seater who was controlling traffic rudely told me to go up the stairs in a concealed, but agitated manner. Unfortunately, she was not the only problem CM in this dining experience. Donald’s photo op was outside and you weren’t able to get his autograph. Adding to this, the photographer was insistent that i remove my sunglasses.

The food was good, and the server i got was kind, but the character interaction was way too rushed. A few moments later, i requested to speak with a manager, and rather than getting a good manager who knew how to correct issues, i ended up speaking with a terrible manager from Navasota, TX and she practically was saying the same things i have already heard before the last time i went for breakfast when i had to wait over an hour for a table.

To be honest, This character lunch is a horrible joke of a dining experience, and i hope they do end this and go back to the Nemo dining package. Otherwise, I’ll be glad to go to Restarauntosaurus which has much better service than the some of the seaters in Tuskers.

Loved the buffett style arrangement. I got my moneys worth eating for my two kids. The pork tenderloin met my appetitie and frankly I am glad this was not realistic African food. This is by far the best in Animal Kingdom. The place looks war torn on the outside but the inside is warm and inviting. The staff made sure my plate was full and to my liking. I gained 10 lbs this week eating there. No risk no reward. Recommend A+.

    What: Donald’s Safari Breakfast

    Approximate Price of Entrees: DDP

Okay for Children: YES!!! Goffy comes and leads the children in a dance around the restaurant.
Okay for Couples: Maybe- the food is good and we enjoy the characters, but if you are looking for a quiet meal then this is not the place for you.

Be Sure to Try: Nothing really stood out of special to me. It was what you would expect to find on a breakfast buffet.

General tips: Try to get checked in about 20 minutes or so before your ADR.

Extra Comments: We loved the service here. It was my DH’s birthday and our server brought him a cupcake and a card signed by the characters.

    What: lunch buffet

    Approximate Price of Entrees: $19.99

Be Sure to Try: The character breakfast “Donald’s Safari” but skip this if you are going to do lunch or dinner.

General tips: The character breaksfast is good, but we made the mistake of eating there for lunch which was a big disappointment. There was not a lot to choose from main dish wise. There was a chicken dish and a pork dish. If you did not want either, there was a station where you could make a sandwich. Otherwise everything else was rice, couscous, or some other form of potato.

TheMouseForLess tips: Skip this for lunch or dinner. The food isn’t that great and the carb overload from all the side dish selections is not good for you.

Extra Comments: The lunch and dinner menu is sub-par for Disney. There are other restaurants that are better in the park.

    What: Buffet

Approximate Price of Entrees: $19.99 per person

Be Sure to Try: Endive, Apple and Walnut Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing. The Sirlion and Pork Loin were well prepared and not dry at all. The Rotisserie Chicken was fabulous.

General tips: Take advantage of the Finding Nemo Musical reserved seating special for lunch.

TheMouseForLess tips: These could include advice on portion size, discounts that might be available such as annual pass or anything that might save money.

Extra Comments: If they still offer it, this is a great place to go for a GOOD buffet lunch plus tickets for the 3:15 seating of Finding Nemo:The Musical. It was nice not having to stand in line for the show and our assigned section at the show was great seats. The service here was pretty inadequate. The waitress did not seem to be happy to be there and drink service was slow. It was very empty when we were there (1:40 ADR) and it seemed very cavernous and chilly. Noise seemed to really travel here.

    What: buffet lunch

Approximate Price of Entrees: $19.99 per person

Okay for Children: Yes, loads of choices. There is enough to fill up picky eaters, but there are quite a few dishes for the slightly more adventurous. A great place for the kids to try new things without being overwhelmed.
Okay for Couples: Yes, though not a romantic escape.

Be Sure to Try: Pearl couscous, tomato and cucumber salad, samosas, various carved meats. Desserts come in nice tasting portions so you can try several. :)

General tips: This makes a really nice place to take a break from the heat of the Animal Kingdom in warmer weather.

TheMouseForLess tips: As a buffet, you pay one price for all you can eat. There is enough here to fill you up at lunch if you’ve skipped breakfast. :)

Extra Comments: Some areas feel a bit crowded, but in general, it’s a nice airy place decorated with items from various parts of Africa. For a real treat, request the breakfast juice to go with your lunch.

    What: Lunch

Approximate Price of Entrees: Rotisserie Chicken 7.99, KM mac and cheese with bottle of water 3.99, regular coke 2.09 (Total before DDE discount $14.81, after DDE discount $12.00) a savings of $2.81
Before discount is without tip, after is with tip

Be Sure to Try: the chicken was really good and is huge, you can get an extra side and easily share this meal with a child

General tips: There is seating inside and outside, I would choose according to the climate, if you have been on Kali, I would suggest taking the food to an outside table, because with the AC you will get quite cold in here.

TheMouseForLess tips: You can easily share a meal and stretch the dollars that way, or if you are on the meal plan, stretch those meal credits. You can get a DDE discount here.

Extra Comments: We will definitely visit this restaurant again on our next vacation

Approximate Price of Entrees: total 29.64

Be Sure to Try: Chocolate cake.

General tips: Go before noon or expect long waits and look for a seat in the back since they will be hard to find. You will also end up sharing a long table with other people.

TheMouseForLess tips: This meal with the dessert was enough for me to share with our son. Get a large drink no ice with and extra cup and share.

What: Lunch: Anna and Jim shared the 1/2 rotisserie chicken, which came with a portion of mashed potatoes and green beans.
Brighid ordered the fried chicken sandwich, but ended up switching with her dad for the rotisserie chicken.
Eilis had the kids macaroni and cheese.

Approximate Price of Entrees: $7.99 for the rotisserie chicken
$6.99 for the fried chicken sandwich
$3.99 for the mac and cheese
$2.29 each for two large sodas

Atmosphere: loud and crowded the day we went, even though we chose an early lunch to try and avoid lines and crowds

    Okay for Children: Yes
Okay for Couples: Yes, although there was nothing romantic or special

Be Sure to Try: We enjoyed the rotisserie chicken

General tips: The lines to order food were deceptively short when we entered, so we figured we would have no problems finding a table. By the time we got out of line with our food, we thought we would have to share tables and split up. By chance, we found the last open table at the very back corner of the restaurant. I would say it is much better to send someone ahead to find a table, even if the lines look short.

TheMouseForLess tips: We try never to over order food, as most of the time, the meals are fairly large. This time, we ordered one rotisserie chicken meal for the two adults, and it was just enough – we had room for dessert, but we didn’t leave hungry. The kids macaroni and cheese was a nice sized portion, and it came with an apple sauce and a drink – a very good value.

Extra Comments: The portion of fries was a little skimpy here, and when our daughter didn’t like the chicken sandwich, the fries were not enough to fill her, which they have been in the past. We also love the kids meals in the Mickey shaped plates.

What: Two Rotisserie Chicken Dinners and Two Large Soft Drinks

Approximate Price of Entrees: Dinners — $7.99 Each and Sodas – $2.29 Each. Total Price with Tax was $21.90. We did purchase the Dining Vouchers (which are no longer available) which entitled us to an entrŽe and a beverage and our choice of either a bottle of soda or water and either a box of popcorn or an ice cream treat later in the same day. The price for the two vouchers with tax was $25.54. We did save approximately $5.00 by using the vouchers.

Be Sure to Try: The green beans that came with the meal were some of the best I have eaten and I am not a big green bean fan.

General tips: The dinner could probably be split between two kids or one adult with a small appetite and a child. Or you could supplement the dinner with a bowl of the corn chowder and share between two adults.

TheMouseForLess tips: If you have a DDE card Ð use it.

Be Sure to Try: All of the food was excellen

General tips: This is one of the few places in the Animal Kingdom where you can sit in the air conditioning to eat. The chicken sandwich came with fries and the rotisserie chicken came with mashed potatoes and green beans.

Dollarless tips: If you’re not really hungry, which was me – you can just get a side order of the mashed potatoes which is very tasty here. DD and Mike split the Chicken sandwich and fries.
