Reviews of Disney's Polynesian Resort Located just across the Seven Seas Lagoon, the South Seas come to Florida at the Polynesian Resort. Each of the eleven buildings in this resort are named for a different island in the South Pacific. The guest areas complete the experience with tiki torches, waterfalls, a beach with castle view and lots of lush, tropical landscaping. Amenities abound at this resort and the restaurants are a destination in themselves. Guests can even attend a luau at this resort and cap the evening off by viewing the fireworks from the beach or a dip in the volcano themed feature pool.

Donít Miss: On-site character dining at ‘Ohana. Fabulous sushi at the Kona Island after 5:00 pm

Room Location Suggestion: Room 2404 in Tuvalu was far from the construction, and our view included the lovely greenery and a partial view of the beach.

The Mouse For Less Tip: We asked for, and paid for a standard view, and got a great view anyway.

Comments: warning – construction was going on, although we heard nothing during our stay. Photo package is NOT included at ‘Ohana’s character breakfast.

After years of dreaming, I was finally able to stay for 2 nights at the Polynesian resort. I have to admit, while I liked it, it did not quite live up to my expectations. We were in Rapa Nui overlooking the parking lot, not exactly the view I was hoping for. Our room itself was quite large and nicely furnished and decorated. We loved the location to Magic Kingdom Park and were able to use the pool one day which was alot of fun. Tip for those wanting Dole Whips and Tonga Toast, you can get them at Captain Cooks, the counter service place downstairs. :) I did love the atmosphere at night, walking around with it all lit by torches.

We had a room in Niue, which was a great location. It was right outside of the Great Ceremonial House, so it was super convenient for running over to Captain Cook’s to refill a mug, or grab a snack.

We stayed at the Polynesian in January and loved it! I love the overall feeling of the resort, both inside and out. The tiki lights at night are so romantic and the beach is a perfect place for watching Wishes. We had a perfect room location in Fiji, which was just a short walk from the Great Ceremonial Hall and looking at the marina. We had a patio with chairs to watch the marina activity, but be sure to keep your drapes closed as there’s a lot of foot traffic around this location. I would stay here any time!

My husband and I were given a long weekend at Disney World, with a room at the Polynesian Resort as a gift from my parents. My Mom and Dad are avid WDW travelers, but because of advancing age and recent poor health, they have not been able to go. They know how much I LOVE anything Disney, so as a surprise they paid for this mini trip for us!!! Our stay at the Polynesian was amazing beyond belief for us. We were in the Aotera building, even though we requested the “cheapest” room. From our balcony we were able to see the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom…it was awesome! The room was a great size, we loved the towel animals and the leis of flowers left for us.

I don’t know how much the room cost as it was a gift. We went from December 6-9. Our room slept five. Loved being on the monorail!! That’s a magical thing for me.

Another thing we really enjoyed was getting some Mickey ice cream bars and sitting on the beach on chaises watching the Electric Light Parade. Such good memories.

The cast members were so kind, and so helpful. We really appreciated the one who served us in the Kona Cafe. We were celebrating our anniversary, and he brought out a decorated plate with two cupcakes. SO much fun!!

My Mouse for Less tip? Try the Kona Cafe!!! The food is great, and the wait is way less than if you wanted to eat at O’Hana.

I would stay here every time if I could. There is something so magical about staying on the Seven Seas Lagoon, being on a monorail, and being so close to the Cinderella Castle. Good memories, lots of pictures, lots of Disney magic.

Rate Paid During Your Stay: $2000 for 3 nights- included 2 days passes for 2 adults and 1 child…had free dining

    Room Sleeps : 5

Don’t Miss: Get to the pool very early in the morning- the choose one person to “open” the water slide. My son was chosen and got a cool picture in front of the water slide. Also they have wonderful games all day at the pool area.

Room Location Suggestion: We LOVED our room. We requested a room overlooking the monorail for our son. He LOVED it. The monorail was right out our patio door!!! We were in the Aotearoa building room number 1204

The Mouse For Less Tip: Loved how you only need 5 minutes transportation time to get to Magic Kingdom!!!!

Comments: The laundry is only located in one place at this resort. If you are unlucky to be on the other side of the resort (like I was), you have a LONG way to walk to do laundry!!!!!
This is my #1 favorite resort on disney property! BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

Date of Stay: October 15-23 2010

Rate Paid during Stay: We had a package with free dining and park passes but am guessing around $375 for the room a night.

Room Sleeps: We had 3 but would have comfortably held 5

Don’t Miss: There are so many things here not to miss. Ohana’s and Kona Cafe. The Volcano slide. Fireworks from the beach. Hearing the Haunted Mansion and other sounds from the Magic Kingdom early in the morning or late at night. The torch lighting ceremony.

Room Location: We stayed in Rapa Nui. At 1st I didn’t think that I would like it because it seemed so far away from the Great Ceremonial House. But I came to realize that it was actually a great building. You didn’t have lots of people running around. Equal distance from GAC to TTC and close to bus stop.

Mouse for Less Tip: Ohana’s for breakfast and dinner. I think that Ohana’s is one of the best restaurants on property. You get a ton of food at both meals and both are family style. The food quality is out of this world, yet it is one of the cheaper buffets.

Comments: This was our first time staying at the Poly and it was amazing. You actually feel like you are in Polynesia and not in Florida. All of the castmembers were wonderful. We had to have something faxed to us from out of the country and they watched for it and notified us immediatly. The rooms were very clean and well taken care of. The grounds were immaculate. As I said above the food at Ohana’s was amazing so much that we ate there 4 different times on our trip. We also had breakfast at Kona Cafe and that was wonderful also. This is by far our favorite hotel on property.

    November 2009 (Jersey week)

Rate Paid During Stay: We scored an incredible room-only rate of just under $200 per night through Magical Vacations Travel.

Although this was my family’s fifth Disney trip, this was our first on-site stay. The five of us stayed comfortably in a garden room at the Poly.

The volcano slide was closed during our visit, but the kids loved bingo by the pool, roasting s’mores and watching movies on the beach near the Grand Floridian.

The landscaping is amazing and relaxing. We saw the magical water pageant for the first time, and attended an O’Hana character breakfast.

I felt comfortable allowing my pre-teens to walk over to refill their mugs on their own.

  9. Wendy S

LOVE the Poly! Great location. Lots of space to wander and explore. Short walk to TTC. Options for transportaion to MK (Boat, Monorail, or walk to TTC and take Ferry Boat). Large, clean rooms, recently renovated and upgraded. Dining options include 1 table service (Kona Cafe), 1 quick service (Captain Cook’s), and 1 family style (Ohauna) restaurants…almost forgot the Luau. Overall wonderful for couples or families!

Rate Paid During Your Stay: around $550 a night

Room Sleeps : 5 plus infant

Don’t Miss: fireworks on the beach. Lilo and Stitch breakfast with Mickey and Pluto. It’s not as chaotic as Chef Mickey’s. The Mickey waffles and potatoes were delicious.

Room Location Suggestion: I paid extra for the castle view and the concierge. Really not worth it. We could’ve just gone down to beach for view.

The Mouse For Less Tip: The fountain drink mugs.

Comments: I will do a less expensive room next time. I love the fact it has the monorail and is within walking distance to transportation center. My mother had a electric scooter and I had a stroller, so getting on the monorail is much better than fighting a bus.

Room Location Suggestion:we paid extra for a park view while it was great, its not worth the extra money. I’ll go for a garden view next time

Mouse for Less Tip: one night of our vacation we went back to the room and had room service delivered to the beach. it was awesome and so romantic! don’t miss having meals at Kona and O Hana’s the food was awesome. and try a magical star drink (mixed drink) it was one of my favorites!

Rate Paid During Your Stay: Don’t know, this trip was a gift from my Dad.
    Room Sleeps: 5
Don’t Miss: taking some time and just sitting on your balcony and enjoying the beautiful grounds and peacefulness!!! Also were able to see the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom while sitting on our balcony.
Room location: We were in the Aoetera Building….any room would be fine with me at this resort, but if you want to see fireworks, then request a room on the lagoon side.
Mouse for Less Tip: If you aren’t able to get reservations at the O’Hana, then absolutely try the Kona Cafe. It was easy to get seated, and the food was GOOD!! Loved itl
Comments: This is one of my very favorite resorts. We love being on the monorail, the whole “South Seas” atmosphere…just the general beauty of the grounds. It’s Disney, but definitely not over done.

Best trip we’ve had to Disney. The convenience of the monorail & the short walk to the transportation center was wonderful. The rooms were spacious, very clean. The kids LOVED Capt.Cooks Mickey waffles for breakfast. We ate at Ohana, Kona Cafe & the Luau. All were wonderful meal experiences. Great view of the fireworks from the beach. Overall, not one negative. We are going again in December of this year & staying st the Polynesian. We were so impressed, I don’t think we’ll stay anywhere but the Polynesian for all future trips

Don’t Miss: Coloring, crafts & cookies in the lobby, 6 pm ceremony at great ceremonial house, watch fireworks on the beach or while night swimming in the pool, if you have young children, take the boat to the magic kingdom.

Room Location Suggestion: Get a room near Captain Cook’s so one parent can bring meals back to the room without ordering room service.

The Mouse For Less Tip: The fountain drink mugs.

Comments: it is worth every penny, the atmosphere is so relaxing and yet you can see the Magic Kingdom.

    Date Of Stay: October 2007

Rate Paid During Your Stay: I can’t remember the exact rate. However, our Magic For Less travel agent got a better deal on our “Land and Sea” package with staying at the Polynesian, than the Land and Sea vacation we were trying to put together on our own using a “moderate” resort!

Room Sleeps : 4 (Perhaps a 5th on the sofa.)

Don’t Miss: Time to relax and simply walk around to enjoy the tropical plants!

Room Location Suggestion: The Tokelau building was very nice. Away from the noise of the volcano pool (which is quite fun, but active!) Yet central to the resort.

The Mouse For Less Tip: Maybe it wasn’t the cheapest on the menu, but getting rained out from Fantasmic, we returned and ordered room service. We had the coconut/almond chicken — and it was AMAZING! We strongly recommend it.

Comments: We LOVED the access to the monorail, (and the buses were frequent too.) The proximity to the Magic Kingdom is fabulous! Fun to take the boat across to the MK too. The room was extremely spacious for our family of three. A wonderful stay!

    Room Sleeps : 5

Don’t Miss: The sunrise, sunset and fireworks over the lagoon along with the water parade; ‘Ohana; the Luau.

Room Location Suggestion: We have been lucky enough to stay in several of the longhouses, but on this visit we had a fantastic room in Fiji, Room 2318, overlooking the marina and close to the Great Ceremonial House.

The Mouse For Less Tip: If you book a garden view room be sure to fax a room request a week before your arrival date to Room Assignments and request Fiji Longhouse. Room numbers on the marina side are x311-x322 (the x indicating the floor level) and the room numbers on the luau cove side are x301-x310.

Comments: This is our favorite Disney hotel. The atmosphere makes you feel at home and the cast members are fantastic. You’re able to rent boats in the marina and both pools are great. One of the great features of the hotel is that you can take a boat over to the Magic Kingdom or ride the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.
