This was my favorite restaurant out of our trip. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was perfect for Italian cuisine, and restaurant was casual. We will definitely be going back on our next trip.

We have eaten here on a number of occasions in the past and found it to be enjoyable. The food is average, nothing spectacular. However, on our last trip we arrived at 5:45 for our 6:05 reservation and were told it would be about 30-40 mins. At 6:45 we went inside to a jam packed waiting area with lots of angry people waiting to dine. The manager was trying her best to diffuse the situation. I overheard a man say he was still waiting for his 4:45 reservation. Once we heard that we told them we were leaving and the manager gave us a pass for Fantasmic that night and we left and had some counter service food instead. It was extremely disappointing and I don’t think we will return there any time soon.

We really like the food here at Mama Melrose’s, as the value is good because the portion sizes are big, so no appetizer or dessert is needed for us. But when we were there in July 2011, trying to get an ADR was not easy, and then when we get there, they are running 50-70 minutes behind, and they were accurate. Plus if we are not there when called, we may have to wait an additional similar amount of time. So no going to ride something else or whatever. The little buzzers only travel about 100 yards or so they say. I was NOT happy since my son 4 years has autism and isn’t likely to wait.
We waited and managed. THEN it took forever to get waited on and the food took almost 45 minutes from ordering to table. After a decent meal, but it didn’t have the same appeal. I’m not sure if it was the food or all the drama, but nothing stuck out as great. No apologies for the VERY poor service. They were obviously under staffed, and it wasn’t as if they didn’t know it was going to be busy… during the wait they told people many times that no walk ins were being seated today.

Maybe we’ll go back, maybe not. This last time was the antithesis of Disney Magic, and it wasn’t the food’s fault. The managers did nothing to make it better. This was the place in DHS we always went to. Don’t know what we’ll do now, but we may try someplace on the Boardwalk for DHS days.

We were here in Jan. 2011. We had made ADR’s for a party of 11. We were assured that there would be no problems with such a large party. We had 4:15 reservations so that we would be able to make it to Fantastic. We arrived early like we were told. It took 15 minutes just to make it through the lobby to the hostess, who was being screamed at. Poor girl-but she handled herself really well. We were told that we would not be able to be seated together after all. We would have to split up. Even after splitting up, we still waited an hour. It was really not acceptable. We decided to try and see if we could get sit downs at another restaurant but no one any reservations available until after 8 which didn’t work for our kids. AFter an hour of waiting we were finally seated. The waiter was decent-not horrible but not fantastic either. Our food was really good. One member of our party loved his steak. Our waiter told us that things were really chaotic because they had three or four tables that had been there for three hours and wouldn’t leave until closer to the starting of Fantasmic. They were not allowed to ask them to leave so it threw all the other reservations into chaos. Because our reservations were so delayed, we ended up missing Fantasmic. Unfortunately, that was our last night. Even though we liked the restaurant, we would not eat here again. When all was said and done, I probaby would have grabbed something from a cart and not missed Fantasmic.

  1. We were so excited to eat here on our Jan. 2011 . We had made ADR’s as we were on the dining plan. We had 4;15 reservations so that we could attend Fantasmic. We got there early as we were told to but the entry way was packed. People were screaming at the hostess because they were waiting so long. We ended up waiting almost an entire hour. It was crazy and I never would have done it anywhere else but everyone had wanted a sit down dinner. We finally got in and everything was very good. We had a great waitress, the food was yummy. Our waitress told us people were just not leaving their tables. They were there for three hours waiting until they Fantasmic show was ready to start. We were told they were not allowed to ask guests to leave so it created mass chaos with the reservations. We were just disappointed because we missed Fantasmic. Even tho’ we really liked it once in, I don’t think we’d eat there again because of the wait. I would never wait an hour for a restaurant-especially when we had so many things to do at Disney. If we had been able to get another sit down, we would have left.

I took my family to Mama Melrose’s last December for dinner. We made a last minute reservation and was able to get in. There was a short wait after our reservation time. But we didn’t mind since we were happy to get a same day reservation. We decided not to start with any appetizer. I ordered the Penne ala Vodka, which I thought was delicious. The portion size was huge. My mom ordered the Chicken PipetteShe thought it had a nice flavor. My step-dad had the four cheese flatbread pizza. He really enjoyed it. After the huge dinners we all had, we decided to skip dessert. We felt the meal was worth the price we paid.
The atmosphere was nice but it did get a little crowded in the front waiting for our table.
All in all we would highly recommend Mama Melrose’s for a yummy dinner.
    The service was very attentive.

We ate there in June 2011. We did the fantasmic package. The wait was terrible. Our reservation were for 4:45 pm and we were taken to a table about 5:20. It was myself, my husband and our 5 year old. None of us liked our food. My sons pizza was tough and he could not bit into it. If it were not for the dessert and fantasmic tickets, I would have been very upset. We used a meal credit so we can live with it but we will not go back. Service was very slow and we had to ask for our server multiple times. She forgot to bring our appetizer and we ask for a drink refill and she forgot that as well.

We ate at Mama Melrose December 2010. We had a 4:25 ADR at Mama Melrose. We’ve not eaten there, but heard some good reviews. We are on the Disney Dining Plan, so this counts at a table service for us. We arrived about 10 minutes early and went to check in and the gal at the door said we couldn’t check in early (yet when you make the ADR they tell you to get there before your time), so we waited a few minutes, then we checked in. The lobby area was so over run with people waiting to be seated. We waited and waited and waited. Oh my goodness, it took forever to get seated. I’m wondering why Disney even does ADR’s. (granted without one, you can’t eat at a sit down place), but the wait is a bit much.

So once we were seated we were quickly waited on (they sure do like to get you out of there quickly for as long as you wait for a table). I had read a wonderful review of the steak so I got that, so not worth it. It was so bland, no flavor at all. My husband got a flat bread which he really liked. We also got dessert because that is part of the plan (would really like if you could swap an appetizer for a desert.)

Overall, we won’t take the time to eat here again. We’ll try something else next time.

At lunch here in July 2011. Fabulous meal of seared tuna on risotto, and the other person had the grilled pork chop. I am still raving about that tuna, and that pork chop was also delicious. Service was pretty good with plenty of refills and I even got plenty of lemon for my iced tea. Being Disney, its not cheap, but the quality of what we received was quite good. Typical park restaurant and not much romance–but plenty of atmosphere. (Think Italian beach restaurant in California and you’ve got the theming.) We skipped dessert as it was pretty hot outside. I always try to go to Mama Melrose when I visit Disney and have eaten my way through several entrees and flatbreads on previous trips. The Studios is not one of my favorite places for quick service so its either Mama’s or the Brown Derby for me, and Mama’s has been winning lately. Looking forward to going back there in December.

We ate there in Aug 2011 for lunch. It was myself and my mom. Very pleased w our meals! The bread and oil go start was great and we got half a caraffe of red sangria which we greatly enjoyed (it was $1 cheaper than 2 glasses). I got the penne alla vodka and mom got the chicken pippette. Both of us were very pleased with taste, temperature and portion size. The chicken pippette had a large amount of chicken on it, too. We got chocolate gelatto for dessert but really it was just ice cream not actual gelatto. Our wait was five minutes or less when we checked in for our ADR. They were turning people away without a reservation. I loved the atmosphere with the twinkle lights all over the ceiling. Our server was good and he was even talking in French to the party behind us. Overall fabulous meal in a nice relaxing atmosphere (the sangria might have helped with the relaxation, too!).

Was there in November 2010 with a group of friends. After a long, tirng day at DHS we were all looking forward to our meal at Mama Melrose. We had ADR’s but it took over 50 minutes for us to be seated. The waiting area was so full of grumpy people and screaming crying kids we had to wait outside were there is no seating. Once seated we had to wait 15+ minutes to be approached by a waiter. Finally drinks and meals ordered we got to wait another 30+ minutes for our food. Which was NOT up to par with what most Disney restaurant put out. The marinara sauce tasted like watered down ketchup and the chicken cutlet was small and dry. They made sure to over price us on the drinks though. This was one of the biggest disappointments of our entire trip. Wouldn’t go there again even if someone else was paying for it.

Be Sure to Try: Everything we have had there is delicious: Mozzarella and Tomatoes and the Crispy Calamari are great appetizers. Since all the food is great we have no favorites.

General tips: We are flexible when eating in Disney. The day we are in a particular park is the time we make our reservation. We go in person at lunch time to make dinner reservations.

TheMouseForLess tips: Portions are very large. If we weren’t on the Disney Dining Plan we would just order the entree, no appetizers or dessert.)

Extra Comments: We ate at Mama Melrose during our first visit in 1991. Always look forward to going back. Menu may vary slighty each trip. Some items are dropped and new items are added. Delicious food. They do not rush you which is wonderful. You get to enjoy each course.

Okay for Children: Yes! Mama Melrose’s is family friendly, though it’s not as overly loud as other restaurants that are good for kids at WDW.

Okay for Couples: Certainly! The atmosphere is nice and relaxing.

Be Sure to Try: The tiramisu is outstanding!! The Ceasar salad was pretty good, too.

General tips: I noticed that they are not offering free bread baskets. If you want bread to go with your pasta, consider ordering the artisan breads as your appetizer.

TheMouseForLess tips: Portions are pretty big. If you’re not doing the Fantasmic Dinner Package, you could most likely share an entree.

Extra Comments: This was the third time we ate at Mama Melrose’s and it did not disappoint! The food was good and the service was prompt.

Be Sure to Try: We all enjoyed all the food here, especially the desserts. Nice wine list.

General tips: Seemed very busy; they were turning people away, so make an ADR.

TheMouseForLess tips: Disney Dining Experience card Ð saved 20% ($25.91)

Extra Comments: We had a 4:50 ADR, had a really nice meal, and then walked out in time to see the Osborne Lights. It was magical, really, especially since it was our first night in one of the parks. We had time to enjoy the lights and then walked over to Fantasmic. A great evening!

Be Sure to Try: We liked all of our food! The tiramisu was so good! I also liked the chicken parmesan.

General tips: We ate here early (3:30) and it was not crowded at all.

TheMouseForLess tips: This is a pricey meal, but it’s nice to have the Fantasmic Package. It’s a good alternative to the more pricey Brown Derby and it’s more relaxing than doing the buffet at Hollywood & Vine.

Extra Comments: Our server was great! She paced our meal very nicely. The atmosphere of Mama Melrose’s is nice and relaxing. I’d eat here again without hesitation.

Okay for Children: Yes, while not a character meal, the wait staff seems to dote on children

Okay for Couples: Yes, the homey atmosphere makes for a quiet respite from the park

Be Sure to Try: Pepperoni flatbread, Penne a la Vodka

General tips: The restaurant is at the extreme northwest edge of the park, we had to hustle to get to Fantasmic on time.

TheMouseForLess tips: The Dining plan saved us quite a few dollars at this restaurant

Extra Comments: Our waiter was excellent, always nearby without “hovering”. The food was better than expected (we live in South Philly, which is loaded with great Italian restaurants!). I would definitely return.

Okay for Children: Yes – dd loves the attention she always gets from the servers

Okay for Couples: Yes – especially if you can get a quieter area of the restaurant

Be Sure to Try: the tiramasu is wonderful

General tips: because of Fantasmic and the earlier closing time for this restaurant, dinner seating times are limited – make ADRs early

TheMouseForLess tips: DDE is not accepted when doing the Fantasmic dinner package but they do accept the DDP. If you have to cancel ADRs, do it as early as possible because you will be charged a $10 cancellation fee if you cancel within 48 hours. You will need to use a credit card to hold your ADR.

Extra Comments: We do this one every trip!

Be Sure to Try: *I* like the flatbread a lot! MIL loves the tiramisu.

General tips: If you make an ADR for the Fantasmic dinner package, know ahead of time there is a special menu with limited choices. Also, if Fantasmic is rained out (as it was that night!) you’re out of luck – there are no “refunds” or tickets to come back another time.

Extra Comments: We liked it here so much we had lunch here later in the week. Food allergic dd had Rice Dream for the first time here and loved it! As with all of our other meals on the free dining plan, we tipped extra.
