Took my 12 y/o son to Disneyland for his birthday October 2011. The Hungry Bear has certainly improved over the last visit a couple years ago. Sweet potato fries were delicious. Fried green tomato sandwich was great–that mango slaw was yummy. Lemon (giant) cupcake with the cute bee on top was a tasty themed treat. We both really enjoyed the Hungry Bear this time around and you can’t beat the setting for shade and relaxation by the river of america.
We went here Sept. 2011. The prices were higher than what is listed on this site. We got a cheeseburger (9.49), A Chicken sandwich (9.19) and 2 kids meals. The power pack was 5.99. The chicken kids meal was 6.49.
The food was good. The power pack was a big hit with my daughter who was tired of chicken nuggets. There is lots of seating that is shaded and right near the water so you can see ducks and the Mark Twain sailing by. They also have restrooms in the downstairs seating area.
When: Numerous times through the years (submitted 8/25/07)
What: Lunch and dinner. Had them both and everything on the menu.
Price of Entrees: For 4 people we pay about $35.00
Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 4.5
Service: 5
Rate the atmosphere: 5
Okay for Children: Great for kids.
Okay_for_Couples: Yes, in the evening as the night sets in it can be very relaxing.
Be Sure To Try: The burgers were very good.
General Tips: In the evening sit on the outside top and watch the River of America just float by.
MouseForLess Tip: Fairly good portions. Few years ago the kids portions were more than enough for a 9 and 7 year old.
Extra Comment: This can be a very relaxing eving for dinner. Kind of sits out of the way, but the treees around you and the River of America makes it a lovely place to relax and eat a good burger.
What: lunch: 2 kids Mickey nugget meals, 1 bacon cheeseburger with onion rings
Approximate Price of Entrees: bacon cheeseburger $8.29, $1 upcharge for onion rings instead of fries, $5.99 for each kids Mickey nugget meal ($20.62 total including tax and 10% discount).
Be Sure to Try: The onion rings.
General tips: There are two levels of shaded seating next to the river. It is a very pleasant place to eat. There is a staircase down to the second level of seating. We like to eat down there at river level. The bathrooms are down there too.
TheMouseForLess tips: The bacon cheeseburger was quite large. I could have shared the burger and onion rings with someone else. The kids meals were small in the chicken department, 4 small Mickey nuggets. What I did do is order 1 kids meal with fries and the other with carrots and ranch. I split the fries between the 2 kids, even splitting the fries, they did not finish them. We saved the carrots and ranch for later. If your kids want burgers, have them split one. My friend’s daughter threw away more than half her burger (cheeseburger with fries is $7.29, split between 2 kids is a very dollarless meal). The burgers all come with fries but for a $1 upcharge you can get onion rings instead of fries. I think you can order burgers without the fries to save money (it is not an option on the menu but they used to do it if you ask). There was a 10% annual passholder discount.
Extra Comments: Overall the food was good but nothing special. If you want burgers and fries this would be a good choice as the setting by the river is nice and the seating is shaded. Service was really slow here. The kitchen could not keep up with the orders being taken. The kids kept coming back to the line asking what was taking so long! Also on the menu was a BBQ chicken salad and turkey sandwich.
