Name Of Resort: Howard Johnson Anaheim

Date Of stay: January 22nd 2016

    Type Of Resort: off property

Rate Paid During Your Stay: One night, $199.02

Room Sleeps : 4 – two queen sized beds.

Please Rate The Following On A Scale From 1-10 (10 being the best):
Theming: 6 -subtly themed to mid-century Disneyland
Room Size: 10 – nice and spacious for our family of 3
Amenities: 9 – in room hair dryer, mini fridge (no freezer), microwave, coffee maker with coffee, shampoo
Quality: 9 – great, clean, perfect location
    Cleanliness: 10 – absolutely spotless
Transportation: 9 – 8 minute walk from our room to the pedestrian entrance of Disneyland.
Recreation: 6 – pirate themed pool. This place is great if you’re not going to spend all your time in the parks.
Value: 9 – The location is hard to beat. Quiet, which surprised me considering the location. Heard the fireworks at 9:00pm but it wasn’t too bad. Shades kept room nice and dark.

Over All Rating: 9. We parked two cars here. There is usually a $20 fee for a second car but the lady at the front desk waived this even though I didn’t ask he to!

Donít Miss: We were able to leave both our cars at the hotel past check in time.

Room Location Suggestion: Room 1614 was great – quiet, despite the fact that we faced the freeway.

The Mouse For Less Tip: The bathroom was rather small, although there was a separate since and vanity area outside the toilet/shower area.

Comments: This is one of two places where we stay when we can’t afford an on site hotel.

Don’t Miss: You can walk to the parks in 6 minutes if you really walk fast, in 10 if you stroll.

Room Location Suggestion: We were in room 2217 and were quite happy.

The Mouse For Less Tip: Love the easy walk to Disneyland. However, if you’re not big on walking, there is no shuttle.

Comments: Clean, reasonably priced hotel, with a great location. There is a pirate themed pool that looked super fun but we had no time for it. I prefer to stay at a Disneyland Resort owned and operated hotel, but they are expensive. This is a great hotel!

We spent four nights here in a Park View room, and the total including taxes was $370. What a deal!

The trick to getting a good rate at this hotel is to call the property directly and get a room using the Entertainment Book – rates from $59 – $79 per night. If this rate is available for the dates of your stay, then you can go buy the Entertainment Book if you don’t already have it. Other good values here include free parking, free WiFi, and free Mac usage and printing in the lobby. If you’re a bargain hunter, it doesn’t get any better than this!

The walk from the hotel to the park is not taxing – the same distance as the Disneyland Hotel to the main gate. I agree with the previous review about the loudness of the fireworks in the park view rooms, but think that getting the view is worth it.

Also worth it are the amenities – a nicely-stocked shop, an arcade, laundry facilities, fridges/microwaves in the many rooms, and the best water play area around (I include all the Disney properties in this assessment – none of them have a water structure like this!).

The only two minor disappointments about this property: a big deal is made of the midcentury modern design. It’s reflected in the website, the in-room guides, and the lovely lobby, but the esthetic is completely absent in the rooms, where the decor is reminiscent of a Best Western circa 1974. The other is not a direct reflection of the hotel, but of Mimi’s the hotel’s sister restaurant. I usually like Mimi’s, but this one has slow, unprofessional service and tasteless food (if you’re lucky).

This was our first stay at a non-Disney property, and I must admit that it was a decent experience. On our previous trip, we stayed at the Grand Californian and spent more for one night there than we did for four nights at the HoJo!

    Date Of Stay: November 30th – December 2nd, 2008

    Type Of Resort: Off Site

Rate Paid During Your Stay: $227.70 for 2 nights, with all fees included; this includes an AAA discount.

Room Sleeps: 4 plus 1 child under 3 plus there was a cot with bedding in the closet.

Don’t Miss: The pool area was very cute, themed to pirates.

Room Location Suggestion: We stayed in room 3108 and were adjoined to my parents’ room which was 3106. Theirs was a handicap accessible room so there was one king sized bed and an enormous bathroom, albeit there was no tub.

The Mouse For Less Tip: We made the walk to and from Disneyland easily, but this is the only option besides driving. There is no shuttle.

The sounds of the nightly fireworks at DL were LOUD. Mind you, we have a preschooler and head to bed early. If you stay late at the parks this won’t matter to you.

My husband forgot to pack our daughter’s toothbrush and I forgot to pack my razor. The front desk gave us those items free of charge.

Comments: If you’re looking for clean, close to Disneyland and reasonably priced, this is a great place. No restaurant on property, but plenty of options on the way to and from Disneyland. One of them, Mimi’s Cafe, is right next door. This certainly doesn’t have the theming and appeal of the 3 Disneyland Hotels, but it’s about half the price!
