We stayed in a cabin last Sept. for the first time. I got a great bounceback rate of around $150 a night. It was just me and my daughter, and you might think that we didn’t need so much room, but it was awesome! Loved the front porch and barbeque grill! Our location was pretty far away from the pool area and the boat dock, but all we had to do was hop on an internal bus and it was a quick ride to those areas. We drove to Publix and stocked the fridge, and it was nice to have food in the cabin since there’ not a food court at the resort. And parking right outside the door is nice! We loved the boat ride to Magic Kingdom. The only downside was that it takes longer to get to a park due to having to ride an internal bus to get to the bus stop for an external bus. And it was a little confusing figuring out which bus internal bus to take. I would definately stay there again, the cabins are great and we loved having so much space.

My husband and I stayed in the cabins with our nieces, ages 12 and 11. The separate bedroom with bunk beds was perfect for the girls, and DH and I slept in the Murphy bed in the living room (a bit cramped, as it is a double bed, but serviceable). We loved the rustic and woodsy feel and having enough space to spread out – a full kitchen to make breakfasts and heat up leftovers, a table where we played cards at night and a living room to watch movies. We were in the 2600 loop, which was a short walk to one of the pools.

Transportation within the resort was not great. A rental car is really needed to make this a viable resort option. There is only one bathroom, which was okay with younger children, but would probably be a nightmare with teenagers!

Overall, we’d recommend this as a relaxing getaway for families with younger children and a rental car. Not great if you want to be close to the park action, have too many adults or older kids needing access to the bathroom, or don’t have a rental car.

Our family of 5 stayed in the cabins for 7 days at the end of August 2010. We were in the Heron Hollow loop #2701-2772. Our 16 year old is 6’2″ (so we consider ourselves 3 adults, 2 children)and we needed somewhere to accomodate all of us. When our options were laid out in front of the children, Ft. Wilderness won out.
We drove so we brought most of our own “provisions” however we ordered the perishable items through gardengrocer.com and they were delivered and put away by the time we reached our cabin. We did order a golfcart but from an outside rental and saved considerably – we were within walking distance to the smaller pool area, laundry and the bus stop so we considered ourselves lucky :)
the cabin was always clean and every one of us slept comfortably every night – the full kitchen gave our boys the feeling of home as they tend to snack in the evenings and our oldest was able to get his own privacy/quiet time in the evening after we all retired to the bedroom as he slept on the murphy bed. There really is not alot of room to store luggage but we did not have any issues with this. The deck was nice to sit on in the early mornings or even the evenings – we grilled and also had our crockpot with us so that was used many a time while we were in the parks. Needless to say this is our new Disney home, our boys will not return to Disney and stay anywhere else! We will be returning in 2013 and this part of the trip is already taken care of!:)

My family(3 adults,1 10 year old)stayed here for 3 nights/4 days. There was plenty of room in the cabin for all of us. If you do not like the woods, you will not like this resort. There are wild animals here: armadillos, deer,’possums etc. The restaurant serves a great all you can eat buffet- breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Chip and Dale sing along is fun. If you want both Chip and Dale autographs, the first chipmunk will make it to you but the second will need chasing down before the movie starts. We waited for a bus-20min.- after the show. This was the longest wait we had for an internal bus. We did not rent a cart because we were not going to be in the resort area for most of the stay. If you are traveling inside the resort, leave 20 minutes before your reservation times. We had a reservation for the ‘Ohana character breakfast. We drove to the restaurant and took the monorail to the park. You do park in front of your cabin. This is nice if you plan on using your vehicle to travel around Disney. This is the best deal for families that are staying longer and want the option of cooking their meals.

Date Of Stay: May 10-13, 2007

Rate Paid During Your Stay: It was around $200/night

Room Sleeps : 6 and a pack and play.

Don’t Miss: The fireworks from the Marina.

Room Location Suggestion: We were in Heron Hollow 2700 block. This was right in the front. Probably staying more towards the back is better because most of the amenities are back there plus the Marina.

The Mouse For less Tip: RENT THE GOLF CART OR BRING YOUR OWN – IT’S A MUST!

Comments: My family would not stay at this resort again. The cabins were clean and roomy and the convenience of the kitchen was great. The problem is just the getting around on the golf cart. It was fun for about 1 day but then when the fun wore off, it was a real pain. We went to dinner Satuday night and having to walk through the sand in dress shoes was not fun! I guess I’m too much of a city girl for the cabins! We had a frog, a lizard, a bee and a scorpion in the hotel room. I would not suggest this resort for those with little kids because NOTHING is right around the corner. If you are bored in the room, you just can’t walk to the pool or walk to the arcade, it was rough with little ones that like to be active.

    Date Of Stay: 12/01/05 – 12/10/05

Rate Paid During Your Stay: $234 per night

Room Sleeps : 6 – 4 in the bedroom, 2 on the murphy bed

Don’t Miss: Lots of activities at the resort.

Room Location Suggestion: We were in the 2400 loop, right at the end so we were close to a bus stop and the laundry room.

The Mouse For less Tip: We stopped at a store on our way tot he resort and got juice and water and some snacks to have in the cabin.

Comments: The cabin itself was very nice and gave us plenty of room for our boys to run around and release some energy. The transportation was not great, It was very time consuming, you have to wait for an internal bus to take you to one of the two bus stops and then from there wait for another bus or a boat to your desired destination.
