Reviews of Disney's Contemporary Resort Rising majestically above the nearby Magic Kingdom® Park, the hotel features a monorail concourse right inside the lobby, providing convenient transportation to the Magic Kingdom® Park, Epcot®, Disney’s Polynesian Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. In addition to the tower rooms, adjacent garden rooms away from the hustle and bustle of the main building offer more tranquil accommodations.

Our most recent stay here was in the Garden Wing, which I was a bit nervous about, as we had previously only stayed in the Tower. I was pleasantly surprised, though and really enjoyed it. The wing was quiet, and it wasn’t that big of a deal to be “away” from the Tower. We were about as far away as you can get, and it was quicker to leave the wing and walk outside to get back to the Tower, rather than go through the inside hallways, though.

I really love the way these rooms were redone, I think the “modern” look they have is awesome. And, you can’t beat being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom!

  1. We stayed in a garden wing room last January. I wasn’t sure about the resort as I’m not a “Contemporary” style person, and found it really didn’t fit my taste. The room is large, which is nice, but I wasn’t a fan of the decor. It is nice to be close to the Magic Kingdom as it’s an easy walk, or it’s easy to get to the monorail. I would probably stay in the Tower if I stayed here again. Other than the decor, though, the restaurants are good so it is nice to have a good meal and still be in your resort.

Our stay at the Contemporary was great. We have stayed here twice in one year. Once in the tower with a Theme Park View and once in the Garden Wing with a Garden View. Both times the stay was very nice. The modern feel of the rooms is awesome and they are huge. They have two Queen Beds and a day bed so they can sleep 5 in one room. The pool is great and centrally located. There are four restaurants at the hotel and being on the monorail gives you easy access to the restaurants at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. We really enjoyed the ability to walk to the Magic Kingdom or take the monorail over if we were too tired. The biggest benefit was watching the fireworks with music piped into the room. It was a nice way to end our evenings.

In January 2011 I was at Disney’s Contemporary Resort for several nights. Can’t beat the location to the Magic Kingdom, and it is is the only resort in the MK area where you can actually walk to the park, which is faster than using the monorail in many cases. The Contemporary boasts a large guest room and plenty of convenience. Bedding is two comfy queens with duvets and a flip down sofa. Closet space is quite ample, and there’s fridge and small coffeemaker. Bathroom includes a seperate ‘water closet’ for the commode, which speeds things up when multiple people are getting ready at the same time. There are two locations: main Tower, and the Garden Wing. The rooms are the same in both places, however the tower rooms are closer to the monorail system (located on the 4th floor) as well as the food and shops. The Garden Wing is less costly and a three story building located on the south side of the tower. Either are fine. Distance between tower and garden wing is about eight minutes, if you walk pretty quickly. Food options at the Contemporary are plentiful from the California Grill (my favorite place in all of Disney), Contempo Cafe (great quick service), Chef Mickey (probably among the top three most popular locations in all of Disney) and The Wave, which to me is a ‘hidden gem.’ There are no balconies in the Garden Wing area, but they are much less costly than those Tower rooms too. The theming at the Contemporary is that of a ‘chic city hotel’ so to me it is a bit boring, but the tradeoff in convenience is worth considering. My kids really like the pool at the Contemporary, and large room size really is great. You really can’t go wrong with a room here, and the Garden Wing can be a bargain for families mostly interested in the Magic Kingdom.

Wew were finally able to have a Magic Kingdom view –which is AWESOME!! We also took advantage of the concierge level which was FABULOUS!! No one was ever up there –we had the place to ourselves–during the fireworks at night –they pipe in the music so you can watch with a glass of wine and some great snacks! Having the Monorail right there was terrific and truthfully we walked to MK when we went. We took advanatge of the delicacies at The California Grill which did not dissappoint and had some wine tasting in Wave. The room was big and nicely remodeled!! I really do not want to stay anywhere else again!

We really enjoyed our stay at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. We have stayed at rooms in the tower and the Garden Wing and the room size and décor were the same. The main difference was the location and the view.
The room size at the Contemporary is one of the best on Disney property and they are a great size. We also really like the décor of the room since their latest rehab. It feels so clean and fresh and modern – very contemporary ;) At the same time it doesn’t feel cold at all, but feel cozy. One of our favorite features of the rooms is a faux fireplace with a mantle!
Dining options are great at the Contemporary! The quick service option, Contempo Café, has some really creative options and is a great option for a quick meal. Table service includes a meal with your favorite mouse at Chef Mickey’s. The California Grill is also located at the Contemporary resort and it is famous for the food and the great views of the Magic Kingdom.
We really love the transportation options available at the Contemporary. Not only do you have the monorail running right through the resort but the Contemporary is within walking distance of the Magic Kingdom. It is a great peaceful walk after the Magic Kingdom closes.
As one of Disney World’s original resorts this resort has a lot of history, but it has many modern conveniences and is a great resort choice!

    Date Of Stay: December 6 – 12, 2006

Rate Paid During Your Stay: $545 per day (Concierge Level)

    Room Sleeps : 5

Don’t Miss: Excellent arcade, great views of Electrical Water Pageant & MK Fireworks, Chef Mickey’s, Parasailing

Room Location Suggestion: In the tower, both the MK & Bay Lake sides have great views. On the Bay Lake side, you can see the Electrical Water Pageant and can catch glimpses of the fireworks at EPCOT. On the other side, you get great views of MK.

The Mouse For Less Tip: This resort is expensive! Go during value season only. We saved for years to afford this trip (for my DS’ 12th birthday).

Comments: If your kids are around the 3-1/2 ft. mark, watch out. It seems like every desk, counter, mantle, etc. in our room was that height. My nephews bumped their heads more than once when they came to see our room.

    Date Of Stay: December 6 – 10, 2005

Rate Paid During Your Stay: $199/night (a bit of a splurge for us)

Room Sleeps : 5 (there were only 2 of us, though – me and my Mom)

Room Size: huge room with plenty of space and divided bath so we could both take care of different needs at the same time.

Recreation: my Mom and I , who have been to the parks a gazillion times, spent a lot of time at the resort and had a lot to do.

Value: It is a deluxe hotel and was perfect for us who spent a lot of time here, but if you plan on just sleeping or maybe swimming at the hotel, you can opt for somethng less expensive.

Don’t Miss: BVG has some of the best shopping; California Grill is a special place to splurge for dinner; Also, the game room is fun (me and my 65-year-old Mom had a ball acting like children and then giving our mound of tickets away to some little ones looking for a prize).

Room Location Suggestion: Some might prefer the tower, but it’s more expensive, and we really liked our garden wing room looking out at the lake.

The Mouse For Less Tip: The transportation is so good here that you won’t need a rental car at all.

Comments: Just a little personal note – Both my mother and I have such fond memories of staying here years ago with my Dad who passed away a few years ago. This was his favorite place and Mom and I spent a lot of time remember how it was years ago and enjoying the nostalgic, the classic and the new.

    Date Of Stay: 5/22/05 – 5/27/05 (5 nights)

Rate Paid During Your Stay: $315.00/per night – NO DISCOUNTS released for General Public for this time period!

    Room Sleeps : Room #1: 6 (2 adults/4 children w/one being under 3); Room #2: 5 (2 adults/three children) – We were very comfortable.

Don’t Miss: The Concourse Steakhouse was FABULOUS and we had the best waitress & our kids LOVED the pool slide.

Room Location Suggestion: We stayed in a Garden Wing Room – North Side – our patio opened up to the playscape. The kids loved that especially when we were getting organized to leave the room each day.

The Mouse For Less Tip: The room size is awesome! The Refillable Mug – a must have! Also, no worry of your refrigerated items getting cold enough. Our bottle water had ice in it each morning!

Comments: We stayed here before back in 2002 and though we had read totally negative reviews of the hotel recently, we wanted to go back. We weren’t in the least bit disappointed! Yes, we would have LOVED paying less a night, but we reserved the room w/the knowledge that we may not get a discount. We loved the convenience of the monorail being just an escalator away in AIR CONDITIONING! And, yes, we even enjoyed the food court! We found it to be always clean and received our food in a timely fashion. And, our kids totally loved the arcade. The staff were very accommodating and our rooms were immaculately cleaned by noon daily. We will stay there again when we go back in 2008!

    Date Of Stay: 10/29 – 11/02/04

Rate Paid During Your Stay: $159 per night AP for Garden view in the south wing.

    Room Sleeps : 5 very comfortable. We had 2 adults, 1 teen and 2 little kids (8 & 2).

Theming: I thought it was a little plain and drab in spots.

Amenities: Loved having Chef Mickey’s so close.

Cleanliness: A few stains on the rug, but otherwise spotless.

Transportation: The bus gets crowded. Would give a 10 if not using the bus.

We arrived early Friday. On check in we valet parked the car for $6. It was just easier not to worry about parking and get to our room ASAP. I only left the car in valet for 1 day. Then I got the car back to drive to MGM. When we returned from MGM, it was easier to self park. So I saved a little cash.

Check in was quick. I found the staff to be very pleasant. The bell man gave us many tips as he was walking us to our room. He asked if we had a car, we did. So his tip was to avoid the Disney transportation if we wanted to get to a park quickly. He said the quickest way to get to the Magic Kingdom was to walk, and this was only about a 7 minute walk. I found that It was easy to walk to the park, and to take the monorail back, as the Contemporary is the first stop when leaving the Magic Kingdom. It was also easy to take the monorail to Epcot. We drove everywhere else.

The south wing is the farthest from the Magic Kingdom walkway, but near the pool. We found the walk to the walkway only to take under 5 minutes.

The elevators on the South wing seem old but work fine. The hall carpetting had some stains. The room was bueatiful! It was a big room with a 25″ TV. Still very limitted on the channels. My kids wanted Spongebob, but you can’t get Nick. There were 2 queen beds and a couch that converted into a twin bed. In front of the couch was a big oval table. I liked having this bigger table with the couch. The kids all fit better around it.

There was also a chair with an ottoman in the room, and a fridge. The room had a safe with a key.

Overall, I would say that this resort is not as pretty as the Polynesion. But Because of the location being within walking distance to the Magic Kingdom, I have to pick this resort as my new favorite. You really can’t beat the location.
