We were disappointed in the Monte Cristo, especially after all the great reviews. It was far too greasy, none in our party of 5 could finish and we all felt ill after. The price was far too high for what we got. The atmosphere was great though.

Where: Blue Bayou, New Orleans Square, Disneyland Park

    When: June 11th, 2013

What: Lunch: Chocolate cake, Child’s mac and cheese, Jambalaya, Mint Julep, Portobello Mushroom platter, salad and soup

    Approximate Price of Entrees: $88.51

    Rate the following 5
    Food: 4
    Service: 5

    Atmosphere: 5
Okay for Children: YES – try to sit at the wrought iron fence, overlooking the Pirates of the Caribbean
Okay for Couples: YES – it is night time with fireflies twinkling in the background all day long!

Be Sure to Try: The Portobello Mushroom entree is perfectly spiced and delicious.

General tips: You can only get the Monte Cristo Sandwich (aka Heart Attack on a Plate) during lunch hours.

MouseForLess Tip: If it is your birthday, do not order dessert when the rest of your table does. I got a free chocolate mousse with Mickey head sprinkles.

Extra Comments: Of the handful of full service restaurants in Disneyland Park, this one is the ONLY one to have its dining room completely indoors, in the dark, in the air conditioning. Make a reservation here during the hottest time of day and you will not be sorry!

I so love Blue Bayou. The food is always excellent and the experience is always wonderful. I would recommend this to everyone. Yes it is pricey but you would pay the same at Big Thunder Barbecue and there you get crappy BBQ as opposed to the great food here and the atmosphere that takes you to another place. I DO NOT recommend this for children. They are rarely able to appreciate it and can ruin the experience for the surrounding diners. Every time I go to Disneyland we always eat here.

If you like gumbo, save your pennies and include eating here in your trip. Go earlier in the day if your kids do not crash well, as this is one of the more romantic and pricy places. The Gumbo was stellar. Crab cakes good, as was the steak with Armagnac sauce. Ribs were disappointing. Get reservations, and specify if you want near the water. (not recommended for smallest kids, as they may find it creepy)

For over 35 years, I would gaze longingly at the diners at the mysterious Blue Bayou as I drifted past in my Pirates boat. On our last visit, I finally took the plunge and ate there with my eight year-old son, Monkey #1.

Although I’m happy to have finally eaten here, I would not visit again. It’s not that the food was bad, it’s that it was a poor value; the quality of the food was what one would expect from Red Lobster or Macaroni Grill at less than half the price. I appreciate the ambiance and understand that it’s really about that – I am baffled, however, when I read positive reviews of the food!

Over the years the Blue bayou Restaurant has gone down hill. The food doesn’t taste as described and was not palatable. That is a huge disappointment considering the 5 star prices on the menu.
The childrens menu isn’t any better. and it is too noisy to enjoy a quiet conversation.
I’m sure that Club 33 has a much better Chef preparing their meals.
I won’t be going back again or reccomending it to any friends.

We always get the Monte Cristo Sandwich here! A tad bit expensive (not as expensive as the Blue Bayou) but you are in Disneyland. This is our little splurge and the kids got their own pirate hats along with devouring their Mac & Cheese. Cannot wait to eat here again! In 30 days we will be there!

My husband and I went to Disneyland in Feb 2011 for my birthday and decided to eat here. We were seated with in 5 minutes without reservations. Right away our waitress took our drink order and was very quick. The service was amazing and the ambience is perfect. I was ify about eating here after reading a few reviews but I’m glad we didn’t miss the experience. We will be visiting Disneyland again with our 6 year old daughter. We can’t wait to take her to eat here. The restaurant is a bit pricey but definitely worth it. Can’t wait to go back!!!

Took the family to Disneyland for the first time. Since I was a little kid I’ve always wondered what it would be like to eat at the Blue Bayou, well I finally got a chance to eat there 25 years later and was not disappointed. The Blue Bayou exceeded my expectations and we had a great experience, the food was great and the ambiance was good as well. The service was great and the employees are very intentive. The overall experience was great and scored it a 9 out of 10 the only reason I gave it a nine is because of the increase in the menu items other than that it is a great family place and I highly recommend it. Although the prices are steep I recommend that every one go at least one time the memories are worth it

My kids are all flying in to My house in AZ and then we are off to Disneyland. We have eaten at the Blue Bayou for all the years my kids were growing up. Monte Cristo was all we ever ordered. We are all so disappointed that the lunch menu has gone up so high that we can’t go this time. Their are 14 of us going so that a $400. lunch. We thought about going in a splitting one so that we can all enjoy what we have always done. But as I see it, That’s $200 for a half of lunch. Something will be missing this trip. Something we very much looked forward to. The Blue Bayou!

ONE IN OUR PARTY ORDERED THE “Five~Pepper Roast New York” AND SADLY IT WAS VERY FATTY THROUGHOUT- WHEN BROUGHT TO OUR SERVERS ATTENTION WAS RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY. WOULD DEFINITELY MAKE THIS A TRADITION FOR OUR FUTURE VISITS. EATING HERE LENT TO THE BEST TRIP WE HAVE EVER HAD TO DISNEYLAND!!!

We had a late lunch on Monday, October 11. Though we had a reservation, we still had to wait 17 minutes. Once seated in a dark corner, we were totally forgotten for another 15 minutes. We finally got the attention of a server. Ordered the special recommended Monte Cristo Sandwich (2 for 4 persons)What a thorough disappointment! Dried out, shriveled and no taste what-so-ever. We had expected a lot more, especially at that price. We expected a culinary experience of the best. It was just the opposite. It must have been in a heating cabinet forever, or under a heat lamp. Shame on you Disney for serving such a terrible product. Kids meal was OK.

This used to be the highlight of our trip to Disneyland every time…they had the best prime rib and potatoes I’ve ever had. It was served with a fabulous salad w/ glazed pecans -it was an awesome meal with an equally awesome view. On one visit they had a cooking presentation of the potatoes with a handout of the recipe. They no longer serve the prime rib, having replaced it with an overpriced steak. We haven’t gone back to eat at Blue Bayou in the last 5 trips we’ve made…it just isn’t worth the money any more.

Went the first of April….Loved it…Made reservations about 60 days in advanced..got there and they did not have it listed..but they were really nice and told us (party of 6) would work us in…Only had to wait 10 minutes. Food great,,atmoshpere great..only one stuff person that seated us. But everything else was better than I expected.

  18. DeCambra

When: Everytime we go (about 2-4x a year)

What: Lunch – I usually get the prime rib and my husband gets the monte cristo

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)

    Food: 5
    Service: 5

    Atmosphere:

Okay for Children: Yes, the kids love the atmosphere

Okay for Couples: Yes, very romantic. It’s like you’re eating a candlelit dinner no matter what time of day you eat

Be Sure To Try: Prime Rib . Best I’ve ever had!!!

General Tip: Any reservation made for 11am is automatically seated next to the water unless you’re a large party. Make sure you do arrive early otherwise you will end up waiting, even if you have a reservation at a certain time.

  19. The Farrells

What: Lunch – Monte Cristo and Ribs with Gumbo

    Price of Entrees: $25.00

Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)

    Food: 1
    Service: 2

    Atmosphere: 3

Okay for Children: Kids menu is limited, if your kids are fussy you may want to feed them first and then just get them dessert.

    Okay for Couples: Sure.

Be Sure To Try: The Monte Cristo ‘Sandwich’ was probably the worst food item presented to me in my life. It was 1 slice of swiss cheese with a 2″ wide piece of sliced turkey and ham buried in fried dough. There was virtually zero contents to a $22 sandwich. There was NO bread – there was lots and lots and lots of fried dough. The profit margin must have been $20. The ‘mixed’ veges consisted of TWO strips of undercooked broccoli. My son ordered the ribs – the portion size was small and the presentation looked like slop from a roach coach.

General Tips: After a miserable experience and lousy food – I actually complained. “Thank you Sir for your input, we will tell our management staff.” Which is shorthand for “we can sell this place out every day and we simply do not care.”

The Mouse For Less Tip: Seriously, DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.

Extra Comment: Our server was a ‘trainee,’ who took 15 min to come take our drink order – then he waited until he brought the soup [another 15 min] before bringing the drinks – and then screwed up the bill. I asked to speak to the manager who was ‘temporarily unavailable’ and spoke with a ‘lead’ who simply said: ‘[name] is a still a trainee.’ At this point I said, ‘Gee, seems like I should get a 1/3 off the bill for providing a training environment for [name]. You don’t lower your prices for poor service, do you?”

Be Sure To Try: The gumbo and Jambalaya.

General Tips: Definitely call for reservations. Ask to be seated along the railing overlooking the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

What: Had lunch there. Had the beef, the broccoli was over done. The price was more expensive than what you have posted here. They charge a $12 fee to split a plate with someone, yet it does give you another side salad.

Approximate Price of Entrees: Family of five $120.00 (including tip)

There is enough action going on that children noise is not a big deal. If you don’t mind hustle and bustle. Ambiance is nice for couples if you can get seated by the water.

Be Sure To Try: Monte Cristo ( had that on another trip )

General Tips: Make priority seating as soon as you know you are going. If you go spur of the moment, get to the hostess stand as soon as they open (around 10 a.m. I believe) the do save tables for guests with no reservations, but not many!

MouseForLess Tips: Portion sizes are good…plenty of food.

Extra Comments: The Blue Bayou is a MUST, at least once! True Classic Disney from the ambiance to the wait staff. I love it!

When: July 2009 (review submitted on January 29, 2010)

    What: Dinner

Approximate Price of Entrees: $70.00 for two

There’s so much to look at and lots of background noise, so you won’t feel like they’re disturbing other dinners. We went there on our honeymoon.

Be Sure To Try: The deep fried Monte Cristo is not to be missed and big enough for 2 to share.

General Tips: An advance reservation is a must here at Disney’s only fancy inside-the-park restaurant. Although the reservation only gets you on the list and wait times for seating are rumoured to range up to over an hour, we only waited five minutes on a Friday in July and were seated directly beside the water, the prized seating.

MouseForLess Tips: Meals come with bread, salad/soup and main courses that are big enough to share.

I wouldnt bring children there – the food is pretty expensive and will add up to quite a bit if you have a large party. Children tend to disturb those who are paying good money to have a romantic evening. Take them to a corn dog stand or get some churros or something.

Be Sure To Try: The Jumbalaya and the Monte Cristo. The Monte Cristo is like a delicious club sandwich crossed with a krispy kreme donut – Delicious.

General Tips: I would make reservations – we had reservations and were seated before people who were waiting for the better part of an hour. And it makes you feel special.

MouseForLess Tips: They dont serve alcohol – if you want a beer, you need to head across to California Adventures.

Extra Comments: We had a great time and plan to eat there again on our next trip to Disneyland.

Be Sure To Try: Gumbo and Monte Cristo.

General Tips: Off season, I was able to call ahead and got a reservation the next day. I have walked up in the morning and got reservations for same day. Never got reservations by walking up at Lunch.

The Mouse For Less Tips: We shared a plate and were not charged extra fee. Blue Bayou gave us an extra plate to split. Approximate Price of Entrees: About $30.00 per person.

It’s a small place and has a romantic setting so children who are quiet would make the atmosphere more pleasent. It is very intimate.

Be Sure To Try: Buccaneer’s Short Ribs.

General Tip: You have to get there early because they take reservations and only have limited seating for walk-ins.

The Mouse For less Tip: The size of the meal is more than fulfilling and worth trying and also using an annual pass will get you 10% off.

The Mouse For less Tip: Portions are not big enough to share, if you are on a budget you won’t want to eat here it was $30-40/person.

Price of Entrees: $100 for the two of us including tip.

The children we saw seemed very happy. It is very romantic. The atmosphere makes it feel very much as if you are alone at your table.

Be Sure To Try: The Beef Short ribs. The meat was succulent, practically fell off the bone. The gumbo is without equal, and explosion of flavor in every bite. The prime rib was juicy and tender and very filling.

General Tip: It is very highly recommended that you make a reservation so you get in the door. Also, if you can hold out and not die from starvation…make a reservation for a little later in the night. It pays off.

The Mouse For Less Tip: Make sure you tell the staff about a special event, they’re very thoughtful and might surprise you with a special treat.

    Where: Blue Bayou

When: July 2008 (review submitted 12/6/08)

What: Lunch – Monte Cristo (2 of them), Cajan Spiced Salmon

Price of Entrees: $64 for a family of 3

The Blue Bayou offers a childrens menu and the atmosphere is “child friendly” It is a quiet restaurant though so I would not suggest bringing anyone to young into the restaurant. The atmosphere is very romantic.

Be Sure To Try: Nothing really specific… Nothing stands out above everything else.

General Tip: A seat by the water is very nice, you will want to book a LONG time ahead during busy times of the year. I’d book ahead even on the slow days.

TheMouseForLess Tip: 10% off if you have an annual pass (according to the last time I checked – MFL note: as of 2008-2009 season SoCal Select, SoCal and Deluxe Annual Passholders receive 10% off and Premium Annual Passholders receive 15% off at Blue Bayou)

What: We ate lunch here, because we’d heard that the lunch menu was cheaper. Although the food was wonderful, it was REALLY expensive. We ordered 2 Monte Cristo plates, 3 mac’n’cheese kids’ plates, 2 sodas, and 1 dessert to share and the total bill came to $91 without the tip. We asked to be seated near the water, and we arrived really early, but the host was very short and told us he didn’t have anything available. Our waiter was great, and the food was delicious, but I’m not sure we’d do Blue Bayou again. It was like any other restaurant if you don’t sit near the water.

Price of Entrees: +$100 for a family of 5

Be Sure To Try: The Monte Cristo and potatoes were REALLY good. The best food we had in the park was at Blue Bayou.

General Tip: The earlier you go, the better chance you have of sitting near the water.

TheMouseForLess Tip: Portions are huge, so consider splitting a plate. There is a split plate charge, but if you aren’t able to eat a huge meal, it’s totally worth it.

Be Sure To Try: Monte Cristo

General Tip: Call disney dining and make a reservation for the day and time you want. about 9 weeks before. A few days before you leave you can call and confirm your reservations. the line for people who didn’t call ahead is very long. When you check in request a table by the water.

MouseForLess Tip: If you aren’t much of an eater you can always split the plate with a friend or loved one. Portions are pretty big.

Okay for Children: OK for children, but this is not a character restaurant and is most appropriate for older children (teens)

Okay for Couples:OK for couples; this is a fairly romantic atmosphere, classic night bayou-side dining with all of the night sounds.

Be Sure To Try: The Monte Cristo sandwich has always been our favorite, but is not available at dinner. Would say that you cannot go wrong regardless of what you might order.

General Tip: Ask to sit by the water; the wait might be a bit longer, but not that long.

MouseForLess Tip: Has the Annual Pass discount, but you have to visit Disneyland like five times a year to make the pass worthwhile. If you can do that or if you are a southern California resident, the pass is a must.

Extra Comments: We have been going to Disneyland for the past 25 years, even now that the kids have moved on; the Blue Bayou has always been a must highlight, and is usually the last thing that we do before leaving the park.

    Okay for Couples: Yes

Be Sure To Try: The wedge salad is the only thing we enjoyed this year, and we have been going to BB for like 8 years now.

General Tip: It doesnt matter what time your reservation is, they will seat you whenever they feel like it and if u ask to sit near the water I swear they will seat you by the bathrooms.

MouseForLess Tip: Try the jazz kitchen, less money and alot more food. Its in Downtown Disney and they accept reservations too!!

Extra Comments: The only way I am going back there ever again is if the prices ever go back to reasonable ones and the food taste like it used too. I am very dissapointed at this restaurant and it use to be what I looked forward to everyear for our New Years dinner.

    Atmosphere:

    Okay for Children: No

    Okay for Couples: Yes

Be Sure To Try: The rolls are great when they are warm. The jambalaya had just the right amount of spice.

General Tip: We made reservations over the phone a day in advance and they had an opening for 2:30. Reserve as early as possible although this did not help us too much.

Extra Comments: We were told over the phone to go early to try to get “water front” seating but we were turned away till our exact reservation time. When we returned they had us sit and wait another 15 minutes and then told us it would be an additional 20 minutes for the water. We opted for any seat and then noticed that walk ups were being sat before us! We had to say something twice and were finally sat at a four top right near the entrance/restrooms/bus boy area.

As far as the food…. the mahi mahi tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. The prime rib was ALL fat and was not worth the $30.

I remember the Blue Bayou being a lot better as a child, now its not worth the time and money.

    Okay for Children: Yes,

Okay for Couples: Yes. But, can get crowded and noisy, incl. lots of kids.

    Be Sure To Try: None.

TheMouseForLess Tip: Due to the ridiculous pricing – and the fact that no entrees/sides are available a la carte – my husband and I usually split one entree and get the extra salad offered with the split plate charge. This provides a decent, if lighter, lunch.

Extra Comments: The pricing is just too much now! We’ve visited BB at least 4 times in the last 5 years. Sadly, we’ve seen the prices rise again and again and again until they are finally just too high for what you get (Monte Cristo for $21.99, when it was $11.99 only 4 years ago!!!!!!). And, with the new menu, the only available meals are multi-course and not that great. They also no longer serve many of the fabulous items they used to have such as the blackened chicken caesar salad. It is unlikely we will go back until they change things. Which is sad, it used to be a really magical place in the park.

Okay for Couples: Yes. Romantic setting!

    Be Sure To Try: anything

General Tip: Make reservations way in advance. sometimes you can book on the same day.

    TheMouseForLess Tip: Annual Passholder discount.

Extra Comments: Really no complaints, where we sat could of been a bit more atmospheric, we sat way over on the side next to the white lattice which seemed a bit sparse, the rest of the restaurant was had atmosphere. however the food was so delicious, will make this a once in a while event but defiantly would go again.

Okay for Children: No, I would have to say not really. This is more of an adult restaurant. I am sure it would be okay with kids who are a little older like 12 or so, but any younger it would ruin the atmosphere.

Okay for Couples: Yes, ABSOLUTELY. My husband and I make reservations way in advance so we can eat there on our little trips. We enjoy the quiet so much, it is very romantic.

Be Sure To Try: Be sure to try the prime rib, the chicken is super yummy and the Buckaneer Beef Tips are outstanding. They just flake off the bone. The potatos and veggies are cooked to perfection.

General Tip: Again, no small children. It ruins the atmosphere for other guests, and when coming be sure to make a reservation in advance through Disney Dine.

TheMouseForLess Tip: When it comes to the monies, if you are on a budget, I would recommend to share a plate, they are fairly pricey and to share a plate is only 5 dollars and your plate would be up to 30. So plan on spending.

Extra Comments: If you want to sit next to the water, request this. It may be a longer wait, but its fun and worth it.

Okay for Couples: Yes!!! We have eaten at the Bayou since before we were married and will continue to eat there. It’s our favorite place in the park to eat.

Be Sure To Try: The Mahi Mahi, Prime Rib and definitely the Short Ribs, super good!!

General Tips: Again, maybe not a good idea for children but fun atmosphere for them. If planning to go, plan on spending, I think people tend to under think their budget for this place.

TheMouseForLess Tip: If going for lunch, try sharing a plate, that is a great way to save and have a good portion control.

General Tips: Reserve online up to 60 days in advance. It’s sometimes possible to get walk in seating, but you can wait a long time.

TheMouseForLess Tip: Disney VISA food discount does *NOT* apply at Blue Bayou.

Extra Comments: As noted above, we loved BB for 15 years, but the new prices really high and new food is dreadful. The white asparagus was bland. The broccoli was undercooked and fishy. No bleu cheese dressing for a wedge salad? Come on.

    Okay for Couples: Yes

Be Sure To Try: My husband really liked his chicken, I thought the pork chops were just okay. The sauces were overpowering and the meat seemed to be of mediocre quality.

TheMouseForLess Tip: I do hear that sharing a meal is a good option as each person will receive a salad and two sides; only the entree is split.

Extra Comments: This was something we had always wanted to try. That being said, I probably will not do it again unless my husband insists. I really did not care for the food. If you are trying to plan a visit I would add $3 to the entree prices listed and $1 for the children’s prices.

Okay for Children: Yes. There were a lot of kids, actually. and they got to wear cool menu hats.

Okay for Couples: ABSOLUTELY! my boyfriend and I have been wanting to eat at the Blue Bayou for months, so as a surprise, I made reservations for our anniversary. The atmosphere was wonderful…very dim and lit by candles, Chinese lanterns, and the lights from the balcony. I guess I should say to try and avoid the tables nearest the kitchen, restrooms, and lobby, but I’m sure that’s a given.

Be Sure To Try: Their side potatoes! I honestly think that was better than the chicken and the prime rib, but i’m a big fan of potatoes. =] oh, and their soup.

General Tips: Sit by the water or at least fairly close to it. And try to save room for dessert. I wanted to try the flying dutchman cookie boat, but I was stuffed.

TheMouseForLess Tip: You might want to ask whomever you’re with to get something you both want, and get something else you want to try, then share off each other’s plate. It’s fun and romantic to share two entrees with a date.

Extra Comments: I love the Blue Bayou. It was everything my boyfriend and I expected…totally worth the money.

    Okay for Couples: Yes

Be Sure To Try: Would definitely recommend the mahi mahi or any fish item.

General Tips: If you do a late lunch, early dinner you can get right in. We could not get a reservation but they could seat us at 2:45 p.m. as a walk in.

TheMouseForLess Tip: Don’t forget to use your Annual Passport for discount. I forgot and would have saved $5

Extra Comments: I have heard good and bad things about Blue Bayou but our experience was just short of fantastic!!

  63. The Cahills

    When: 02/07/2005

What: lunch, we ordered two sodas, an order of stuffed mushrooms, and a Monte Cristo to split. Because I was wearing a birthday sticker they brought me chocolate mousse (yum!)

    Atmosphere:

Okay for Children: Yes. There were plenty of families around us. The children’s menus are written on a pirate’s hats, which the children can wear and take with them.
Okay for Couples: Sitting by the water is very romantic. Even at high noon it’s dimly lit and very romantic.

Be Sure To Try: Everyone says the Monte Cristo is it, but I thought it was an awful lot of batter. I wouldn’t really call it a sandwich. It was definitely worth the try, but now that I’ve tried it, I won’t be trying it again.

General Tips: I made our PS for the first available lunch time. We were the first seated. It’s a neat feeling to be walking through an empty restaurant!

TheMouseForLess Tip: Go during lunch! The menu is cheaper, the food is just as plentiful, and it always feels like night in there anyways!

Extra Comments: All in all, this place is a must try!
