Q.  We want to go to Walt Disney World this year.  Now, my husband wants to stay on property however my daughter wants to stay off property near Downtown Disney in the Downtown Disney Resorts.  If you stay off property can you still use Disney Resort transportation to go between parks and Downtown Disney?  (Submitted by Charlotte B.)

A.  Hi Charlotte!

The transportation options that are available at Walt Disney World are, of course, quite varied.  It’s great that they offer their guests so many modes of transportation from motor coach to watercrafts to the ever popular Monorail.  For me, using Disney transportation during my trip is one of the things that make me feel like I’m at Disney!  It’s an integral part of my Disney vacation experience.  I just love the sights, sounds and yes, even smells that make up the adventure that is Disney transportation.

Disney will take guests to any of the theme parks, resorts, Downtown Disney and water parks all for free.  Now, there are a few caveats to keep in mind.  For example, if you are trying to take a bus from a resort it will not take you directly to other resorts.  In other words, if you’re staying at Disney’s Pop Century you cannot take a bus directly to the Polynesian for a dinner reservation at ‘Ohana.  You’ll have to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then hop on the Monorail to the Polynesian.
Another caveat would be what you are proposing.  Over at Downtown Disney, the buses only go to the resorts, not the theme parks.  So, what that means is that you cannot make the trek from a Downtown Disney resort to Downtown Disney and then get on a bus to the Magic Kingdom.
A few options available to you at a Downtown Disney resort would be to rent a car and drive over to the theme parks yourself.  In addition, the Downtown Disney Resort that you stay at will most likely have a shuttle that will take you from the resort to the theme parks.  You’ll need to keep in mind that you will have to rely on their schedule.

So, while you can’t use Disney transportation to get to the parks from Downtown Disney, there are other ways to get to the parks from Downtown Disney Resorts.
Hope you have a Magical vacation!
