THOSE OTHER THEME PARKS


• Friday night 132 people were on the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride at Universal Orlando when the ride got stuck upside down. This was a developing story at this writing on Friday night.  Check the link below for updates.
~But wait!  It’s Saturday morning and apparently the ruckus was caused by a trapped rider who called 911, resulting in WESH 2, another Orlando television station, even had a helicopter over Universal, according to the Examiner.

RUMOR MILL


• Al Lutz over at MiceChat has pretty big news (still in the hearsay stage) about new hours for Disney California Adventure park.  It seems Disney is getting close to announcing year-round 8 pm weekday closing times in the off-season with at least one World of Color show performance per evening and a 10 pm closing with multiple shows per night on weekends.

• Screamscape is reporting that Ghost Galaxy, the haunted version of Space Moutain at Disneyland, will likely see some new upgrades and effects added this year.

• The news just keeps coming out of Comic-Con, but perhaps the most entertaining is Captain Jack Sparrow’s message in a bottle…but I’ll let Blue Sky Disney blog tell you about that.  Be sure to click the “message” link to see the video.
~Plus, Disney has released video from yesterday’s TRON: Legacy panel discussion featuring the filmmakers and stars from the December 2010 release. You can see it on LaughingPlace.com.

• Disney launches TRON for the iPhone and iPod Touch at Comic-Con serving as fans ‘Golden Ticket’ to Disney’s ComiTRON offsite event.

• Read Stitch Kingdom’s account of the Tron Scavenger Hunt for Flynn’s Arcade at Comic-Con and what the reward was for those who completed it. Leave it to Disney to build a theme park attraction on the fly.

• Plus, Disney has an official TRON: Legacy web site.

• Following it’s recent purchase of the iPhone game company Tapulous for $35 million, and a number of other game companies over the years, rumors are that Disney is about to buy Playdom for around $600 million.  Playdom is the hottest property in town and the No. 1 social game company on MySpace and also makes games for Facebook. So, could Disney be gearing up to give Farmville a run for it’s money?

• Veteran Disney producer/writer JYMN MAGON has begun a series of live web events aimed at Disney fans, animation aficionados, and aspiring writers & artists. • Farecompare has advice for the best time to buy airline tickets to Orlando.
